While some business owners did see increased profits during the unsanctioned H2Oi weekend, several agreed that the money was not worth the trouble.
“Business in town was definitely impacted, yet it was a terrible waste of manpower and money,” Fish Tales restaurant owner Shawn Harman said. “... If you want to look at it as a strict monetary thing, it’s not worth the hassle.”
Car enthusiasts seemed especially fond of gas stations, and crowds of participants could be seen loitering in gas station parking lots.
Council President Lloyd Martin, who owns 7-Eleven gas stations uptown, said his businesses saw increased profits, but avoided rowdier groups as much of the action took place downtown.

Here's what I don't understand. The h20i organization says these people where not part of their group, this event was not sanctioned, apparently no permits were applied for.
So this was a group of entitled, misbehaved tourists, who have little zoom zoom cars, that are not Audi or VWs, which I understand is what the h20i membership is comprised of.
These are the people that were the problem when the event was here. The event left, they stayed. Why does the media continue to try to the the actions and behaviors to the organization?
It's like Trump being blamed for things he has no control over.
It's a meeting of enthusiasts, driven by social media. Short of closing down the city, what can you do to prevent them from coming here?
As a resort town open to the public, you have to take the good with the bad. From what I saw, even if you shut the area down, and blacked out the area, they'd be here until the novelty wears off. The publicity and government and media attention fuels the attendance. It's the price you pay when your economy is totally based on tourism.

I'm sure OC still has license plate readers at the end of the bridges. They can pretty much work out which is which and who the owner is. I don't know if they can ban an individual (legally)from their town like in the wild west days. But they can sure make it uncomfortable for them if they choose.
