Ocean City Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Collision

OCEAN CITY, MD – (July 31, 2019): Ocean City police officers are continuing to investigate a fatal crash involving a motorcycle that occurred Tuesday, July 30, 2019.

Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a motorcycle in the area of 45th Street. The motorcycle fled from officers, at which time the officers did not pursue the motorcycle and lost sight of the driver.

At approximately 9:44 p.m., Ocean City Communications received a call regarding a serious accident northbound at 59th Street on Coastal Highway. The preliminary investigation revealed that a motorcycle ran a red light and collided with a Ford Explorer that was attempting to make a U-turn northbound onto Coastal Highway. Investigation revealed that the motorcycle involved in the incident was from the attempted traffic stop at 45th street. The motorcycle driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The three occupants of the Ford Explorer were not injured.

Northbound lanes of Coastal Highway were closed for several hours and a traffic pattern was established by Ocean City Public Works. Ocean City’s Traffic Safety Unit is still investigating the collision at the time of this release. The victim’s name has not yet been released, pending next of kin notification.

Update: The victim has been identified as Brian Douglas 2nd of Mechanicsville, Maryland.

Fire the cops for chasing him.

No, fire the cop who decided that this traffic pattern was best. They had traffic heading south, just to get back into the line of stopped traffic heading north.
Made no sense at all. I've ran every scenario and only one made sense. Let the traffic from Rt 90 head left NORTH of the accident.
Please OCPD or OCPW explain it so us laypeople understand your logic.

well @12:49, thank god for the cameras that clearly show that the police were not chasing him at all. so you can say you are sorry at any time.

Do you remember that federal program from years ago, "Reading s fundamental"? The article clearly states the police did not chase him. The officers attempted a traffic stop and he fled. At that time, the officers broke off and he continued in a reckless manner, unfortunately resulting in his death. This is a clear example of someone not exercising personal responsibility.

12:49 what a dumb*** first of all it's stated the cops didn't chase him, second of all he chose to break the law not once but twice by running from a simple traffic stop. The cops were doing their duty by enforcing traffic laws for the original stop. There are consequences for everyone's decisions and they are their responsibility not the people trying to make this world a better place and not letting lawlessness rule. By the way I am a motorcycle rider!

Yeah blame everyone but the kid driving like an idiot.

"Did not pursue," yeah, I bet....not. They just don't want to be blamed for a pursuit that resulted in a vehicular death.

2:57 I'm sure all the cameras will be reviewed! Just because of sue happy people like you! Guess his family will be the next one to try to sue Ocean City for negligence!

Who cares if they were actually chasing at the time? Only one hurt in this deserved to die because of his own stupidity.

Yeah, let's not forget about the family in the Ford Explorer that this moron hit. It's their lives that will be changed forever. They are the innocent and forgotten victims.
