Hurd: 'I Shouldn't Be Only African-American Republican' in House

Rep. Will Hurd, R-Texas, says he’d like to see a more diverse Republican Party, and that it should be “a broad party.”

In an interview aired Sunday on NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” Hurd lamented the lack of African-Americans in Congress — and said the GOP must be more diverse to win voters.

"I think the Republican Party should be a broad party,” he said.

“I shouldn't be the only African-American Republican in the House of Representatives,” he said, adding that “ruby-red Texas" is "actually purple."

"If we want to keep a Republican Party in Texas, the Republican Party in Texas needs to start looking like Texas,” he said. “I think that goes for the rest of the country as well.”

[That would work if more black people would run, Mr. Hurd-- but apparently they all want to be Democrats. --Editor]

He is right you know. The problem is that all the GOP's of color have jobs. Unlike all the Obama wannabes who's only jobs are dragging down the people around them.

The Republican party no longer exists. Trump is abandoning bedrock issues — balanced budgets, free trade and strong support for NATO — that formed what used to be the modern Republican Party.

Rep. Mia Love was a Republican in Congress. She ran for the Senate and was defeated in the primary by Mitt Romney.

It would be good for more Republicans to come from a wider range of backgrounds. That said, they should be people of accomplishment and character rather than just an accident of birth.

You can call yourselves what you want, but if you were born in the United States, you are an American, if you were born in Africa , you are an African, if you very born in Italy, you are Italian. Must I go on, or can you figure this out on your own now ?
