I played with those toys in that catalog in my mind more than I did with the toys I received under the Christmas tree :-)

Could hardly wait for the catalogs still have white iron lattice flower pots I got from a Montgomery Wards catalog, and decorations for the house, clocks etc.

When Sears stopped sending out their catalogs that is when their business started the downward spiral to disaster.
For over 100 years they were a catalog store and they killed themselves.

When I was a kid, it was the only good thing about September. It generally came out around the same time as school started.

OMG!!! It came to our house right after Halloween. Or at least that's when my mom put it on the kitchen table for me and my siblings to pick out 3 things we wanted most.
I liken it today to getting into bed with my wife...lots of anticipation, lots of waiting, and not knowing if I'll get what I wanted.

The Netflix series "Stranger Things" has been using the Sears catalog to correctly set the the show with authentic era clothes, sheets, etc. The last episode of season 2 at 8:10 shows the same set of sheets I had in 1983, ordered from the Sears Catalog the year before.

Older boomers like myself may even recall the most important use of said catalog. T.P. in my Iowa granny's outhouse. (Not the shiny pages, though.)

Our parents hid them from us and made us eat canned fish way too often.
