A Maryland Judge Is Under Fire After She Denied Tyrique Hudson A Peace Order; He Was Later Killed

GLEN BURNIE, Md, (WJZ) — A district court judge is under the microscope this week after a decision to reject a peace order.

More than 5,000 people have signed a petition to remove the judge who denied Tyrique Hudson a protective order against his neighbor in February. That neighbor was charged in Hudson’s murder just two months later.

Now, his friends and thousands of others want Judge Devy Patterson Russell to be removed from office.

Hudson, 22, requested an order of protection on February 16, 2019.

According to Hudson, 53-year-old James Allen Verombeck made a death threat against him.

I would hope a restraining order would have saved his life. However it seems that if a person is determined to do bodily harm they will. It is very sad.

A restraining order is really just a warning to stay away. The number of people who violate them is an indication of how effective they really are. All that stands between the two people is a door and a piece of paper.

A better idea would be to issue the restraining order but give the requester a gun and training on how to use it.

A "restraining order" (it would have been a Peace Order vs. an Ex Parte) is a piece of paper. It does not protect anybody-as 3:43 stated, it is much like a warning to stay away. A violation of the Peace Order could result in a 90 day sentence, if he had been charged with violating it and was found guilty. Another tragedy- a young life snuffed out because some other person is an A$$hole.
