Governor Larry Hogan Declares State Holiday and Maryland State Government Closure for Christmas Eve

State Offices Will be Closed Monday, December 24

ANNAPOLIS, MD –
Governor Larry Hogan has declared that Maryland state government agencies and offices will be closed on Monday, December 24, 2018 in observance of Christmas Eve.

“Since this year Christmas falls on Tuesday and is a state holiday, I am also declaring this Christmas Eve as a holiday so that our hard-working employees can spend more time enjoying the holidays with their loved ones,” said Governor Hogan. “This is just another way we can show our appreciation to our dedicated state workers.”

Under this declaration, December 24, 2018 will be treated like any other state-employee holiday.

What about us poor saps working our tails off to pat these state workers. Due to Mds ridiculous taxes we have to work on Christmas Eve to pay them!

Feel free to get yourself a state job, 254. They're plentiful.

Then who would flip your burger. Who would handle the transaction on the purchase of your new car - you get the point. Why should Government employees be treated differently since the poor individual flipping your burger is paying Govt employees paid day off.

So you flip burgers instead of getting a decent paying state job out of your sense of altruism? Umm... thanks?

It is a nice gesture but my question is why wait until right before to announce this. Christmas Eve has been on the calendar the whole year and you wait to the last minute to announce this? Could have made traveling plans a little better thinking that you couldn’t go anywhere over the weekend knowing had to work on Monday. Could have flown out on Friday. Nevertheless, thanks.

So everyone should be paid and treated the same, 842? I'm pretty sure that's called Socialism.

I worked for a municipality and they found out it was much easier to give Christmas Eve as a holiday than deal with being short staffed as lots of people took a vacation and others called in sick. They took away another less observed holiday so it didn’t really cost the public any more dollars. My guess is they know nothing gets done on Christmas Eve in government offices so why even bother. I do agree it would have been nice to let the employees know a couple of months ago so they could have made travel plans.
