Obituary of Dorothy Goetz: In Memory of Dorothy Marie Goetz 1930 - 2018

Dorothy Marie Goetz, 88, of Delmar, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at her home.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Bernard Olsen and Gudrun Marie Dahl Olsen.

Dorothy was a member of the Iris Society, the Herb Society, Wicomico Environmental Trust, and the Salisbury Zoo Docents. She was a licensed practical nurse for over 20 years, retiring in 1997 from the Salisbury Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, crafts, caring for her many grandchildren and great grandchildren and finding gems at thrift stores and auctions. Her favorite saying to her daughters was “eat it, it’ll put hair on your chest”. She was often referred to as a baby whisperer and she never met an animal that she didn’t like or enjoy spoiling with treats. She was as beautiful inside as she was on the outside, truly one of a kind who took life’s bumps in stride and became stronger as a result.

Dorothy is survived by five daughters, Diana Marie Osborne & her husband, Dan of Garner, NC Arlene Helen Pace & her husband, David of Marion, NC, Anita Lorraine Goetz of Asheville, NC, Jennifer Lynne Albero & her husband, Joe of Delmar, DE and Jean Elaine Nelson & her husband, Bob of Salisbury; 10 grandchildren, Lucas, Rachel, Drew, Sean, Rebecca, Ian, Graham, Kyle, Holly, and Andrew; and 11 great grandchildren and one very spoiled Yorkshire Terrier named Pink. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her lifetime friend, Pearl Jacobson, who wants Dorothy “to pick out a nice fluffy cloud for the two of them to relax on”. And she’s sorry that they were never able to finish their book they were going to write called, “We Die Laughing”.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by loving husband, Arthur Herbert Goetz in 2010; a daughter, Dot Ann Barber; and a brother, Robert Clarence Olsen.

There will be a graveside memorial service at a later date to be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Wicomico County Public Library 122 South Division Street Salisbury, MD 21801, the Wicomico County Humane Society 5130 Citation Drive Salisbury, MD 21804, or the Community Cat Coalition P.O. Box 1761 Berlin MD 21811.

Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, PA, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD 21804. Please visit www.hollowayfh.com to express condolences to the family.

My sincere sympathy to you and your wife for the loss of your loved one. Our family was a very friendly connection and my daughter saw her within the past year and commented how good she looked and seemed to be doing great. Really knew Mr. Goetz through the library. A really wonderful family and a really sad loss. I know the pain and her family must feel during this most difficult time. May God Bless you in your time of sorrow.
