Wicomico County Council Out Of Control, OR WILL THEY BE? That's Up To You!

Marc Kilmer, Wicomico County Council

On this year's ballot, there are two proposed charter amendments for votes to consider. The first is Question A. It would allow the county council to confirm deputy directors and the assistant director of administration just like the council currently approves department directors. The thought behind this is that in some cases deputy directors have significant authority and may even serve as the top official in a department when a director leaves. For positions that have such authority, the council should confirm.

The amendment would also clarify that the director of administration, the county's number-two position, is confirmed by council. This has been the practice since the beginning of the executive form of government, but the charter is not clear on this. Question A would end any confusion.

Publishers Notes: The Council wants to take over as much power from the Executive as humanly possible. As I've always stated in the past, either get rid of the Executive position, (something YOU voted for) or leave the Executive position alone. These EXTREMIST Council Members need to be stopped.

Wicomico County citizens voted to amend the Charter allowing for the election of the County Executive versus being appointed. As the writer indicates, along with that comes the authority of the Executive to identify and hire and fill the staff positions needed in accordance with the approved organizational chart. If the citizens (voters) decide the Executive is not performing his duties and responsibilities satisfactorily, then of course they can vote him or her out. Otherwise, put it on the ballot to return to an appointed County Executive, or let the system function as intended with the elected County Executive.

VOTE NO ON QUESTION A.

If the issue will impact you personally.....get out and vote. It goes without saying - only registered Maryland voters of Wicomico can vote on the issue.. .

John Cannon wants all the power he can obtain. He will use it to control his agenda and allow him and his crony homeboys like Gilkerson and others to control not only Salisbury but the County also. We the People will then be under their total control. BS

Legislating for personalities, sometimes it's neccasary.

John Cannon the slumlord needs to GO.

There is at least 1 non-qualified Deputy Director that would never be if not for Bob. Perhaps that is what launched this effort.

Executives - of any organization - should be able to choose their staff. This is nuts! I agree with previous comment. You don't like the job he's doing, vote him out. Trying to exercise control through staff approval is a power grab by the Council.

I hate Wicomico County and hate it more every single day because of BS artists like John Cannon. He is absolutely, without a doubt, the worse of the worst.

Let the people decide.

At this point, based on results, I have more confidence in the Executive, Mr. Culver, than most members of the Council. Quite simple decision.
