A Viewer Writes: THE BOYCOTT IS COMING!!!

It puzzles me that people frequently misunderstand the important freedom given to us under the First Amendment - freedom of speech. Professional football players, in the context of their employment, do not have “an absolute right to express [themselves],” as the writer here seems to assume. Their rights are defined by a collective bargaining agreement negotiated by the Player’s Union and the owners of the NFL.

Contrary to popular belief, the First Amendment does not apply here; it applies only when governmental action is involved. To use the words of the First Amendment, it prohibits Congress (including the states under the 14th Amendment) from “abridging the freedom of speech.” In a relationship between owners of professional football teams and their employees, there is no governmental action.

Personally, I am offended by the conduct of professional football players in refusing to stand while the National anthem is being played. While the message being conveyed by those who “take a knee” varies, its common theme is criticism of our nation. I would be the first to agree that our wonderful nation is imperfect, but I don’t believe that criticizing our nation during the performance of the national anthem is appropriate; rather, it shows a lack of respect for our nation. It would be no more appropriate than attending the funeral of a friend and using it as an occasion to explain the many imperfections of the deceased friend.

So, I support the boycott on November 12 and will not be watching or attending any NFL game on that date.

It amazes me that people don't know the difference between public, government and private interactions. I blame it on the civil rights legislation in the 60's that destroyed the rights of private citizens in their interactions among themselves(notice how all the destructive actions on our country and society date to the mid 60's). I quit watching or following the NFL the week after Colon Crapernick kneeled and the NFL didn't do anything.

Wrong.
Watch the game!
THEN make it known that you'll be boycotting for one month ALL the sponsors that bought (very expensive) TV-time during the game.
Maybe, even better, boycott the first sponsor that comes up after each quarter. NO ONE will want to buy that spot!
Make it easy - just for 30 days. The corporations will pull out FAST with a risk of paying big money for an ad that may result in losing about 10% or so of their sales!
Hit 'em where it hurts: In their bottom line.
No player will be kneeling within 2 weeks, I assure you.

The television providers have stated that they will not cover the national anthem in an effort to not cover the un-American protesters.
When that happens, I will change the channel or turn the TV off!

I REFUSE TO GIVE NIELSEN THE RATINGS THAT SAY I WATCHED!

REMEMBER THE CABLE COMPANIES ARE WATCHING EVERYTHING YOU WATCH AND REPORTING IT.

No offense guys, but I don't believe any of you. This is like part of our DNA.I would be surprised if the boycotts hurt the NFL whatsoever.I'm just weak enough to watch every game on Red Zone every week.Sorry to let you down.

NFL is fixed get over it move on. Today's version of football isn't worth watching

Only Traitors, Morons, and Real Assholes watch Football or support it!

Let it be known that I will boycott the crap for the remaining days I have. Why start watching it now, when I have never watched it in 70 plus years. Screw them and I don't feel superior to you that have followed it all your born days. I just boycotted a little ahead of you.

I haven't seen an NFL game since the Colon Cancer happened and the NFL did nothing. College ball is just fine with me, along with NASCAR and all the others who are here to take our minds OFF the daily political drags and just participate in a clean competition for an afternoon or evening. That's the whole reason I watch sports.

I can find the sponsors' names online without watching any games and boycott them accordingly.

Goodbye, All!

About 53% of americans disagree with the anthem protests. Naturally of the 110 million that watch pro football if close to 60 million people stop watching it then it would have an effect. Out of that 110 million 82% are within the age group of 16 to 40. The boycotts won't work what will work is an open an honest conversation into why they are protesting and for all players and coaches and assistants to march on washington. That will never happen!!

You are right. Something happened.

Not watching the games will do nothing. Stop buying products of the sponsors. Money talks. Do Not buy NFL products nor aid the sponsors. if the sponsors start pulling ads because of lost revenues then maybe the NFL will stop the foolishness. money talks so hit the sponsors.

I stopped watching last year and have not retuned. Lots of great football on Saturday.

They themselves don’t even know why they are doing this. That’s how stupid they are. If you ask them they just claim injustice but can’t give any proof or examples of that.

Quit watching when MOM forced the Ravens to take the OCare payoff. Don't miss it.

I quit football when the Colts left Baltimore in the middle of the night!

9:55 Just what would that open and honest conversation consist of ?

The fact that it would take twenty-five years of police shootings nation wide to equate to last three months worth of shootings in Chicago alone not to mention Baltimore L.A. New O. Atalanta and on and on. All these shooting were Black on Black. The majority killed under the age of twenty-one. So how many Black children are armed and ready to kill each other let alone a police officer. So are the cops killers or Black kids killers. Sadly politicians and N.F.L. cry babies will not address this issue. It does not fit the narrative. 1800+ kids shot in Chicago alone this year. Can you wrap your mind around that. The cops are the problem right lol. Stop drinking the diversion Kool Aid the democrats are selling. Players should be rallying behind the police that walk into that every day. They need to spend some of millions on activism not criticism.

The fact that Colin did not kneel until after being benched by the coach. A White coach I might add. What had he done for the Black children prior to being benched. It is time for all people to accept the responsibilities of their actions. Color has dick to do with it. The media feeds us what sells for them. There will always be poor people. Being poor is not a crime but we all know it leads to crime for some. There will always be officers that should not be in the field. That will not change until mental health becomes an issue. They check your eyes and ears yearly. They check your shooting skills every quarter. What about the mental health well being.
