Worcester County Sheriff’s Office Press Release

One of the leading causes of crashes is speed. Last year there were 557 deaths on Maryland roadways due to automobile crashes. In an effort to reduce crashes and fatalities associated with crashes, the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office will be utilizing new technology in measuring speed. The speed detection device can record vehicle speeds and photograph violators for later identification. The device will be augmented with a Deputy in the area enforcing the traffic laws.

The following County locations will have the speed detection device and Deputies enforcing traffic laws throughout the coming months.

Stockton
Girdletree
Public Landing
Rt. 12 North and South of Snow Hill
Newark
Libertytown
Friendship Road
Rt. 575
Showell
Bishopville
South Point
Rt. 589 near Showell Elementary School

If you live in an area that is experiencing a speed problem, please contact the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office. We will set up the device and monitor the speed and do enforcement when required.

The easiest way to not receive a speed citation is, don’t exceed the posted speed limit.

There is not a 10 mile an hour over the limit grace speed.

Help us work toward zero deaths on our roadways.

One of the leading causes of increased revenue is speeding tickets.

What if I'm going 2mph over the limit do I get a ticket? I know Delaware is a b!#ch but I guess now Maryland is screwing it residents and tourists also.

So is there a 9 mph over the limit grace speed?

so why exactly are we announcing speed enforcement areas. I also find it amazing they even announce the grace speed. I don't see this fixing a problem.

They would make a killing if they enforced the speed limit on Rt 50. Seriously, they could target anyone driving over 70 and still make a crap ton of money.

"Help us work toward zero deaths on our roadways. "

There will NEVER be zero deaths on our highways. That is an impossible goal. No state has had, or will have, zero deaths. That's why they are called accidents.

And if you drive the posted speed limit, you will be impeding the flow of traffic.

Even speed cameras in Maryland are set to only produce a picture and speed violation if the speed exceeds 11 MPH (look it up). Yes Virginia, there is a speed grace in Maryland, and its not 10 MPH, it's 11 MPH. So I guess they didn't lie about that. If they stop you for 10 MPH or less, you've been profiled, and you're about to get much more than a speeding ticket.

No, you will be obeying the law, if you are in the right lane. If you are in the left lane you could get a ticket. At 11mph you get a ticket. That is not a grace.

I honestly don't usually have a heavy foot, but I must have on July 10th. In my mailbox last week was a ticket for going 48 in a 35. The fine was forty dollars. It clearly stated that tickets are issued at
twelve mph or more over the speed limit. So,yes-they give you 11 mph. Any more than that, pony up.

Max posted speed limit in the US is 70mph. Car companies are breaking the law by producing a product that exceeds that limit. Sue them.

Nice try at trying to sound informed, but you fail. Please look at what you can find online, or take a trip out West and see for yourself:

"Portions of the Idaho, Montana, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming road networks have 80 mph (129 km/h) posted limits. The highest posted speed limit in the entire country can be found on the Texas State Highway 130, and it is 85 mph (137 km/h)."

What is says you mouth breathing tards. Do the speed limit not 5 over not ten over the speed limit period. They warn you where they will be so when your dumb arse gets a ticket you can not cry about it. The money goes directly to the state of Maryland that is why I am so confused why all these deputies act like troopers. Go fight some real crimes leave the tickets to the monkeys in brown. Oh sorry Mikey I forgot you were once half of a trooper. Your baby seat is still at the barrack.

Please read what you are trying to argue about, BEFORE you attempt a rebuttal. The one you try to argue with is 100% right. Nothing was untrue. You, on the other hand, do not know what you are talking about.
