Call Us Names, We Don't Care...

Ever since my Wife bought her Toyota Prius I was blown away at how comfortable and roomy this vehicle was. Then came the incredible gas mileage. I was so amazed, I went out and bought one, (above). The next thing I knew, all of my friends were going out and buying their own Prius and now we all try to compete with each other to see who can get the best mileage without tricking out the vehicle. How many miles to the gallon do you get in your vehicle? I know I'll see YOU at the pumps but you won't see me. Well, maybe once a month anyhow.

I would rather get 8 miles a gallon than drive that. Batteries fail @ 100K and cost 6K to replace. Junk

gettin over 36 in my jeep compass

I was able to get 47 from an Altima Hybrid. That is a heavier vehicle with a bigger engine and a sticker rating of 32-35.

12:34, Not true at all. My Wife has 140,000 miles on hers. I have friends with 160,000 miles on theirs, NONE of them have had to replace batteries. Now here's the "wives tale" about the lie you just tried to spread.

You see, these batteries are in CELLS. Uneducated people who get the warning their batteries need to be replaced, it's total BS. IF you know what you are doing, rather then spending THOUSANDS of dollars replacing all the batteries like the Dealer wants you to, all you have to do is replace the CELL that has gone bad.

In fact, a friend of mine listened to me, went to YouTube and watched a video on how to replace a CELL. He went on line, bought the replacement CELL for around $40.00, followed the YouTube instructions and replaced it himself.

So you don't have to spend thousands of dollars when in fact a single CELL goes bad. What you are spreading about 100,000 miles is a LIE. These cars go hundreds of thousands of miles. In fact they say the brakes only need to be replaced around 250,000 miles. The car is absolutely incredible, period.

Please don’t try and sell these cars. I don’t want the price to jump when people finally catch on about just how great a car they are. Let them continue to be hard to resell because of the bologna that’s out there about them!

My wife has an '05 with over 300,000 miles on it! We don't know how many actual miles because the odometer literally stopped at 299,999 and that was almost a year ago. The dealer said that was the case with the early models. We finally put front brake pads on at 225,000. The "battery" or cell went out at 285,000 and it was replaced for about $1,200.

Some folks choose to drive such a vehicle, however many owners seek to purchase these vehicles for socio-economic reasons, in order to keep their transportation expense within a limited budget. However, many sacrifices in safety, power and overall comfort must be made.

These cars fill a niche in the market place obviously. Those with limited budgets predominantly are willing to buy and own such vehicles, and are willing to accept the many limitations that dominate such a compact car and similar models.

I see a few of these small cars on the road periodically. They seem to be owned predominantly by "tree huggers" and mostly liberals based on decals, etc. usually seen pasted on the "bumpers".
A couple of my friends own them, and they are of the liberal mind set.

If one lives in a large city, with anticipated speeds not exceeding 45MPH, I suppose it would make sense to consider owning such a vehicle. Otherwise, one may not want to seriously consider buying one.

The car itself is aptly named. "Prius" which means something that precedes or takes precedence. This is simply a car to buy which will precede the purchase of a larger, more luxurious car...until able to do so.

My husband would never let me drive one of those death traps just to save money. He actually loves and idolizes me and I am spoiled. Thanks but no thanks. Gas could get over $10 a gallon and it wouldn't hurt us.

it's ugly looking. No one could pay me enough to drive that thing.

Good for you! Save all the gas for me and my E350 Benz.

I prefer comfort and power.

I would rather arrive in comfort driving my boat....a ole Brew-ick

I love the multiple 4.6 ft rednecks who's comments I've been rejecting because I truly do not believe you little boys can't afford the F-250's you claim to drive. Well, I could be wrong. You could be 45 years old and still living at home with mommy. If that's the case, I'm sorry I've been rejecting your comments. I have 3 trucks and 12 cars, 2 Harley's and a 40 Ft. Motor Coach. I might drop $10.00 into this gas tank every month. In fact, the friends I mentioned in this Post all actually own big pickup trucks but realized buying a Prius for the short runs they tend to make daily is a much smarter move. Oh, God Forbid us conservatives actually give a crap about not only saving gas money, we also care about the environment, animals and our children and grandchildren. More money to spend on them. The difference between you and me, our adult kids don't live at home, they're independent. I'll bet your parents have a lift kit on their golf carts too, right? LMAO!

I drive a suv because I can't get in and out of cars that sit that low. I'm older (I hate the term elderly) so even though I might like something like that I just couldn't do it.

These are actually really great cars. I have leased three. You'll be towing your gas guzzlers to antique car shows with one someday. My Ryobi electric mower rules too. Put the past in the right lane. Let the future pass.
True Conservatism is environmentally conscious with practical and fair regulation. Just being butt hurt about everything and changing times and all that is new and that you don't understand or can't afford just makes you a dope and a lazy citizen that will be left behind with no say. Big empty trucks with those loud fart mufflers.....Yeah I see you. Your a jackass that wants to be seen and heard but have little to warrant such attention but a car payment.

I own this Prius and this was a round trip to BWI in an '07 Prius with 230,000 miles on it. And, Yes, I had another one that had a bad cell and in a day and $40 I had it back up and running!

Don't tell anyone, though, the value may go up on them, lol!

I completely agree with Joe, you’re a dinosaur like your big gas pig of a truck or car if you cannot commit to the future without gas. I laugh every time I fill my tank up for under $20 dollars while you’re paying out close to $100. What’s that saying about a fool and his money?
And please check their safety rating first, they’re very safe! Front and side airbags!

Tractor Trailers are big and heavy and that’s one of the deadliest jobs there is. Aside from driving a tank, nothing is 100% safe.

I got 55mpg in my 2010. Batteries began acting up at 186,000 miles so I traded it for a 4 yr old Prius with only 82k miles.

I worked with a guy at Wallops who has over 540,000 on his. He wants to reach 1,000,000 now.

Joe you have too many cars and trucks.Give me 1 car or a truck thanks.

90% of Canadian taxis are Prius wagons. Turns out you can replace bad cells individually which dramatically reduces the service cost. When the hybrid system fails, you keep moving with the gas engine. When a plug-in system fails, you walk.

My uncle got 500K out of a Chevy Vega going to Wallops whats the big deal ! I have had a 1 GM van hit a million miles and have another with 850K and these vans carried the equivalent of two Prius a day for 10 years without fail and both have original engine.

Joe's Democrat roots are coming out. He caved in and bought an Obama Car.
