Aggressive Dog Fatally Wounded By Trooper In Calvert County

(HUNTINGTOWN, MD) – A large dog that had reportedly attacked a woman outside of her home was fatally wounded by responding police after it charged a trooper this morning in Calvert County.

The victim is identified as Jenna Rae Sutphin, 28, of the unit block of Cherry Hill Road in Huntingtown, Maryland. She was transported from the scene to Calvert Memorial Health Center by ambulance and later transferred by air to Washington Medstar Hospital Center where she is currently undergoing medical treatment for injuries sustained in the incident.

At about 7:15 a.m. this morning, a trooper from the Prince Frederick Barrack responded to the unit-block of Cherry Hill Road and Route 4 in Huntingtown, Maryland, after receiving an animal complaint from motorists passing by the area. Upon his arrival to the scene, the trooper found the dog actively engaged in the attack in an overgrown area near the highway, adjacent to the front yard of the victim’s home.

As the trooper approached the scene, the dog aggressively began moving towards the trooper. In fear for his safety, the trooper fired his State Police issued .40 caliber pistol, wounding the dog. Subsequently, the dog ran from the scene.

The trooper immediately began rendering aid to the victim until EMS personnel arrived. Sheriff deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office also responded to assist.

The dog, later identified as a Dogo, was located a short distance away from the scene. In an attempt to apprehend the dog and prevent it from doing further harm to anyone, police on scene fired again, fatally wounding the animal. The preliminary investigation indicates the dog is owned by the victim’s fiancee.

Maryland State Police investigators responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. Calvert County Animal Control also responded to the scene. The investigation is continuing.

I hope I'm never put in a position where I have to kill a dog.

I have dogs and love most. I hope I never have to kill a dog or any living thing, 7:23. But if a dog is ripping at a human or anything else, I hope I am in the position to kill the dog doing harm to another human..

Destroy a animal.. And you won't

I suppose you don't care about the victim 7:23! You must be a wimpy PETA type person.

The victim is not the dog 7:23, it's the human.

I love all animals and I too hope I am never in a position where i have to kill a dog. Use common sense people. If you are in that position it means either a tragedy has occurred or the potential for one may occur. No one in their right minds wants to be in that type of situation/position.

I don't know what a dogo is but this stuff happens all the time with pitt bulls. All aggressive type dogs should be outlawed.

Fatally wounded?
Put down.

As it should be.

Humans are infinitely more important (souls) than the animals of this world.

The full name is Dogo Argentino. They are outlawed in the UK due to their ancestry and inherent traits, aggression can be a problem.

That trooper violated the Cruelty to Animals law in Maryland, regardless of his "fear for his life." You can legally destroy an animal, but one cannot wound or maim an animal, which he did. The trooper needs more training with the weapon, and to quit being so afraid when he is armed with a gun.

1:44...…..with all due respect you have no clue about weapons. You are the one who needs training regarding weapons.

Duh, you missed the whole point of my comment. You have no clue as to reading comprehension skills. And you have no clue about me, how many weapons I own, or how much I know about using them. Was that all you could come up with? If you intentionally shoot an animal in Maryland, you MUST kill it, not mutilate, maim, or wound it. That's the LAW. Get the point now?

And what's that crap about "with all due respect"? That statement never validates the comment that follows. Your comment was devoid of any value, unless it just made you feel good by posting it.
