Incident: Sexual Assault
Date of Incident: 5/15/18
Location: Parkside High School, 1015 Beaglin Park Drive, Salisbury, Maryland
Suspect: Jose Miguel Vazquez-Ramos 19 years old of Salisbury, MD
Narrative: On May 18, 2018, Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office / Criminal Investigation Division was called upon to investigate a sexual offense that occurred at Parkside High School, during school hours. Detectives learned the fourteen year old victim was sexually assaulted by the suspect, who was later identified as Jose Miguel Vazquez-Ramos. Furthermore, Vazquez-Ramos sexually solicited the victim using text messaging. On May 21, 2018, Vazquez-Ramos was arrested by the investigating detective. Vazquez-Ramos will be taken to the Wicomico County Detention Center for further processing.
Charges: Sex Offense 3rd Degree, Sex Offense 4th Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, Sexual Solicitation of Minor

I need to share with you some news that will soon be made public. Concerning information was shared with administration which we immediately reported to authorities for their investigation. The information concerned an alleged sex offense of solicitation of sex of a minor. We have been informed that the investigation has led to the arrest today of one of our students. We want our families to know that we will always act quickly and in close collaboration with the authorities whenever information such as this is brought to our attention. As our Parkside families know, it is always our highest priority to keep all of our students safe while here at school and in our communities. Wow, I thought he was a good kid. We played sports with him at Fruitland Falcons and he was pretty much a star football player because of his size.
My kids told me he just got a football scholarship at a college.
I don't think Jose had parents that I am familiar with. Adopted maybe. Proves a family network with both parents is needed. I feel sorry for him and it pisses me off at the same time.
I am also very sad about the 14 year old that had to deal with this.

Even then, the truth is never completely told. Drug dealing, guns brought to school, fights, and frequent bullying. Don't forget what happened in Montgomery County where the 19 and 17 year old students were in the 9th grade with 14 year olds. All charges were eventually dropped.

Jose is an American Citizen, Just because his name is from hispanic orgins doesnt make him illegal. Jose is a great friend; knew him since elementary school, keep his grades up and was a good athlete. Jose wasnt the type of student that always got in trouble in school. All i have to say is that he is innocent until proven guilty. I guess some of you dont know the law quite well.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter if the girl was willing. That age difference is certainly problematic. I know that teenagers do not think with their brains but this young man has certainly made a mess.
I coached him years ago. Incredible athlete. Decent kid. Very respectful. Let's let the facts come out before we prosecute him on social media.
Right. There have been many females who have lied because they were afraid of getting in trouble. I hope they did a thorough investigation because if not a law suit could result. One would b surprised at how many were found innocent. Of course the press does not retract those stories nor do they clean the person s name they dirtied up

If a child is held back a year and/or has a late birthday or has moved from another state it is possible to be 19 when one graduates. I believe its more to the story. Sexting?

I wouldn't say he is a 'good athlete" but he was definitely a benefit to the team because of his side. In terms of high school football, he could be considered a beast. Parkside was a better team because of him.
What he did to this 14-year-old is a different story. I don't know the facts and I feel sorry for him. My son loves him and feels bad for him as well. I certainly hope it was consensual and he doesn't turn out to be a monster as the picture is being painted.
I didn't know he was 19, but I do now. I did know that he didn't come from a normal mom and dad home. People in his life loved him and he hung around good kids. I'm sorry that he got himself into this dilemma and I just hope it's some pissed off parent getting revenge. Sounds to me that he was at least in a texting relationship with the girl. I would love to read her text messages in response to his before I pass judgment on Jose. I know what it was like when I was in high school and I do know that many/most 14-year-old females have hormones just like adults do. I bet she was sending him Sext Messages just like it makes it sound like he was.

Parkside High School Safety Concerns For The Children
Even after all the mass shooting that has happened here and abroad, Parkside still knowingly keeps doors unlocked that will allow any predator to get into the school or the new modulars out back....
Not only that, Parkside lets any and all students hang out at the front door. I don't know how many times I have gone there and had the door held open for me by I student. I also can't count how many times I have walked in the door as a student is walking out.
If Ms. Pinhey was a real leader/ If Donna Hanlin was a real leader, they would make it against school policy for students to hang out or around any door. If Pinhey and Hanlin were leaders they would post at least an adult in front of all doors in between classes and no student would enter or exit without an adult escort.
Also if Donna Hanlin was a leader she would invest some of that money in buying metal detectors for every main entrance. Donna Hanlin is preaching to anyone that would listen to her that she spent her first year here coming up with a plan for her precious Pre-K program.
Think about this for a moment or two. The Wicomico County Public School System is plagued with approximately The Wicomico County Public School System is plagued with crime including rape and guns. Donna Hanlin is more concerned about getting taxpayers to pay for her precious free babysitting service for unwanted kids of thugette mothers. Where are the fathers in this case? Most of these kids that will 'benefit' from her precious Pre-K Program are the offspring of entitled mothers who are already collecting free benefits from the hard-working taxpayers. These same mothers contribute NOTHING to society except more offspring and more burden.
These baby thugs are already doomed for life but Libtards like Donna Hanlin and Don Fitzgerald are demanding that we the taxpayers keep throwing good money at bad. Why do I as a working parent have to constantly pay for someone else's rugrat that I didn't bring into this world? When will someone start paying into a system that I or my own kids can benefit from? We need to be in contact with their local and DC offices to insist they take action and support rolling back Obama era regulations which inhibit school districts from dealing with disruptive and unruly students. That is the crux of the problem today in the schools.
I also think it's important to add that 'disruptive and unruly' are not terms to describe this young man's observed behavior over the past several years; this is a major surprise. Will just have to see how it plays out.

I agree with you. Obama forced that get out of jail free law for black kids on us. Former WCBOE President Mark Thompson is getting paid to protect the black thugs in the school system.
Second, I also don't think this kid was a bad kid and my kids actually know him and like him. I pray that it is a misunderstanding or false accusations.
Either way nothing is going to change with the current leadership in the WCBOE.

Parkside High School has the worst leadership of all the schools. There sports programs have the worst coaches in the state of Maryland. It's no wonder they are putting out bad kids with criminal histories. Look at the Varsity and JV baseball team and their dismal records. Kyle Daubert had no business coaching the Junior Varsity team with his lack of skills and attitude. It was bad enough when Coach Holloman was the head coach and then they gave it to the JV coach, Kyle Daubert, that had an even worse record. WTH is going on with the coaching in Wicomico County Schools? Look at these embarrassing school baseball rankings!! I can discuss the other sports, but I will save it for another day. Parkside Baseball is ranked #150 in the state and #9013 in the nation! How embarrassing is that with a school population of over 1400 students? They are the worst team in the county next to WiHi. Look at WiHi's dismal record of ZERO(0) Wins! They 0 - 21 and ranked #243 in the state. WTH is going on in the WCPS system? Who hired these clowns? If you are praying that your child gets a baseball scholarship you can forget that at Parkside and WiHi. Kyle Daubert and Otis Elsey should never have been on the WCBOE payroll. It's time to get rid of all the baseball coaches and assistant coaches and start all over. Bryan Ashby is the Supervisor of Athletics, a title that he shares with "Supervisor of Career and Technology Education. He boats on he LinkedIn Page that he is "Supervisor of Education" as if he is in charge of all education in the Wicomico County Public Schools.

My kid played at Parkside this year and Kyle Daubert sucked as a coach. Kids cussing with the F word all the time. There was absolutely no discipline. I'm thinking about transferring my boy to Snow Hill next year if they don't do something at the Board of Education and hire real coaches.
Letter to the Editor
Here is a question for someone in the know.
The Willards Fire Department was just dispatched for a "farm accident rescue" and the volunteer Deputy Chief called for a helicopter. Trooper 4 finally got airborne. It sounds as though they are saying a 15-year-old male got run over by a farm tractor.
Then the volunteer Deputy Chief asked Central if a police officer was responding. Central said, "No because it happened on private property."
MSP confirmed they will not respond because it happened on private property. The volunteer deputy chief seemed to be puzzled and surprised as well.
First of all, Central should have checked before the fire chief even asked. They shouldn't be allowed to make those decisions on their own.
Does anyone else think this incident should be investigated to make sure foul play wasn't involved? Not to mention a 15-year-old should be in school at this time. I may have heard the age wrong, but regardless.
I was waiting to see who was going to replace Coach Bryan Holloman when he left Parkside Baseball for UMES. I was also waiting to see a job notice go out and there was nothing.
My question is why is Bryan Ashby, Donna Hanlin and the Board of Education filling coaching spots without doing an appropriate job search and filling those positions with qualified candidates. It is a job and they ARE getting paid with our tax dollars.
You get what you pay for. Bad coaches = bad students. Look at all the rapes and violence happening at Parkside and the other High Schools in Wicomico County. Shame on Don Fitzgerald for allowing this to happen.
Brian Ashby sucks as the Supervisor of Athletics. He turns out some crummy programs. Many schools have this as a full-time position and not a title. How can you run athletics and never go to any of the games? It is his job to support all athletics and attend the games, not just the meetings and conferences where there are free food and a hotel room paid for by the county taxpayers.
Dr. Hanlin, you need to fire Bryan Ashby and hire a new full-time athletic director. This guy is only using it for the title. Replace Ashby before we petition to have you replaced.
Several of the kids that played baseball at Bennett High School left the team and are now playing Lacrosse. I can't blame them.
Dr. Hanlin needs to revamp that entire sports program or she is going to have a revolt on her hands. Kids being raped by other kids, gangs in the schools, disruption in the current baseball programs. I wouldn't want to be the Superintendent right now.
Oh wait. She thinks Pre k is more important than what is really happening in the schools.

I can name one kid that walked off the team at Parkside right before playoffs and never came back. Now that I think about it Parkside nor the other 3 high schools didn't go far in the playoffs. Can't say I would stay either. Lot of hard work these kids put in and not being treated fairly.
I believe if a kid makes the team they should get equal playing time. This isn't the pros.
Only 1 kid from Parkside High School made The Bayside South All-Conference First Team and that was Andrew Smith. The First Team was dominated by Worcester County Schools and that speaks volumes about the sports programs in Wicomico County. So embarrassing for the kids.
LOL!! Don't we have a sh!tty athletics program in Wicomico County that lets anyone coach so that their child can play sports. Look at Bill Cropper at Bennett, David Owens at Bennett, Chris Burkhardt at Parkside, Otis Elzey at Wicomico High School. There are several others I could name as well, but since this is a dismal year and last year I will mention their names. That cropper kid wasn't that good at baseball and his daddy forced his way in so that he could make sure that Little Cropper could get some playing action for the college coaches. Yeah, his playing days are over. He can come back home and play girly softball in the County league.
Since we have touched on the sports program and the bad kids being produced it dawned on me why the baseball teams at Bennett and Parkside has about 24 to 25 kids on each team. They have the favorites that will start and play most of the games and the rest of the team is enough to make a second team. So what they are doing is carrying their favorite starters and using the other kids as the scrimmage team.
Same goes for the football teams. The have way too many on the team to use for opponents during practice.
How is that fair to the kids that spent money to get on the team and go religiously to all the practices just to sit on the bench and watch the starters that really suck playing most of the games. The irony is that many of the kids sitting on the bench while less skilled kids are starting and playing most of the games could be the players that make for a winning season. The starters are playing because the coach can't say no to their suck ass parents. Then the entire team has a losing season because the parents will piss and moan if their little Manny Machado is taken out of the game. Look at the dismal records of Bennett, Parkside and Wicomico High. Way to go Mardela, keep up the great work boys.
Regarding the coaches in Wicomico County Schools, do yourselves a favor and ask Donna Hanlin how much these coaches are paid. You'll be surprised at how little it is. You should also realize that coaches need to be available at 2:30 or so every day, plus some evenings and even Saturdays in many cases. How many people can do that? For the most part, only secondary education teachers can handle those early weekday hours. I don't know how much Worcester County pays their coaches, but I'd bet it's a lot more than WIcomico County.
As for the Pre-K programs, I believe enrollment should be "first come, first served". It's not. If you have no income or little income, your child automatically gets in. Let that child get sick or injured at school and Mom/Dad say they can't come b/c they don't have a ride, etc. Discrimination? You bet! Most of these parents don't have jobs, so they have plenty of time to work with their children at home. If they do work, they get financial assistance for daycare. It's 100% free babysitting, that's why so many are pushing for all day Pre K. I'm sick to death of working full time to fund able-bodied people who choose not to work, and now my tax dollars are going to free babysitting for their children. It's got to stop! When is someone going to care about the other children who are basically ignored all through school in favor of the "underprivileged" and "gifted" kids??? What do you say, Donna Hanlin?
