President Trump said NFL team owners “did the right thing” by requiring players to stand during the National Anthem – suggesting that those who don’t perhaps “shouldn’t be in the country.”
“You have to stand proudly for the National Anthem and the NFL owners did the right thing if that’s what they’ve done,” Trump told “Fox & Friends” in an interview that aired Thursday morning.
Trump had been speaking at a roundtable on immigration on Long Island when NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced the policy Wednesday.
The policy requires players and personnel to stand for “The Star-Spangled Banner” or face fines — though each team may develop its own rules about those who do not comply with the new rules.
The new policy also gives players the option to stay in the locker room during the playing of the anthem if they do not wish to comply.
“Well I think that’s good,” Trump told Fox News. “I don’t think people should be staying in locker rooms. But still I think it’s good. You have to stand proudly for the National Anthem,” he said.

The owners pay a lot of money for the stage to present a football game. If a kneeler wants a stage to present their position on social issues, let them rent their own stage or stay in the locker room.
that is what is wrong with the US now, they refuse to respect the US flag and call it free speech. I say "Love It Or Leave it" and take all these illegals with them. Each one of them have the money to charter a 747 for all of them. Take away all tax dollars from the owners and close all stadiums until the owners pay back the Tax Payers in full.
That the NFL owners believe that they have appeased the fans by not punishing the offending players but by fining themselves shows just how out of touch they are with the fans. The NFL fan base does not consist of radical leftists, while the players have proven that they are. Not just by their directly offending patriotic Americans, but also by their giving huge amounts of money to leftist causes.
Do not allow your children to put sports heroes up on a pedestal. They are not heroes, just talented entertainers.
We need to adopt many of Russia's policies, no Russian citizen or Athlete would ever show such disrespect!
Bringing politics into sports is always a loser.
Look at it this way. If you want to sell AVON products, would you expect NFL owners to give you a few minutes on the microphone (much less the camera) for free? Hell no. If they demanded you pay for your air time during an NFL event, do you actually expect they would give it to you for free for someone you don't like in spite of you never met but only suspected was related to you?
If some would stay in school long enough, they would learn that Africa was/is made up of multiple people/races and some of those put put others up for sale on the slave market. Lily White George Washington didn't do it.
Why not have these players with their OWN agendas have the homeless population sponsor their messages. Does anyone think that this would not work?
