*EMBARGOED* Rep. Harris Issues Statement on Passage of VA MISSION Act

WASHINGTON, DC: On May 16, the U.S. House of Representatives passed S. 2372, the VA MISSION Act. The VA MISSION Act institutes critical reforms to the VA’s health care system and funds the VA Choice Program. Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) released the following statement after the bill was passed:

“As a physician and a veteran, I believe every veteran deserves accessible, high quality health care. For too long, bureaucratic red tape has forced veterans on the Eastern Shore to travel all the way to Baltimore for procedures that can be performed locally at most Shore hospitals and at other medical facilities. The VA MISSION Act will streamline the VA’s community care programs, fund the VA Choice Program, and expand the VA’s Post-9/11 Caregiver Program to all veterans. I applaud my colleagues in the House for passing these reforms, so the VA can provide veterans the care they deserve.”

The VA clinic in Cambridge lost its optometry staff last year. A 250-350 mile day trip from the Lower Shore to Baltimore for a simple eye exam and prescription is wasteful, and for older vets, even dangerous.

Their audiometry unit can't get updated equipment either.

They FINALLY see the light!! Our Veterans on the Eastern Shore of Maryland Virginia are treated like a third world county. There is a Choice Program but trying to access it is almost impossible! You gotta know some body that knows some body to find out how it works. Most just give-up and suffer at home and die. Our Veterans need better.!
Blue lives matter....Black lives matter...VETERANS lives matter..Thank you OUR President for all you are doing for our Veterans..God Bless America!!!!
