United States Steel announced Wednesday morning that it would call back 500 employees to work at its Granite City, Illinois, plant after President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. would impose tariffs on foreign steel.
“Our Granite City Works facility and employees, as well as the surrounding community, have suffered too long from the unending waves of unfairly traded steel products that have flooded U.S. markets,” U.S. Steel President and Chief Executive Officer David B. Burritt said in a statement released Wednesday.
The steel company announced that it would need the additional personnel to support increased demand for steel after President Trump announced last week that the U.S. would impose tariffs on aluminum and steel imports.

Here's a better solution that has longer-term benefits for our country....
Buy their cheap steel and aluminum products!
Retrain our workers from smelting and mining to manufacturing products from the materials!
When the other countries run out of steel - they have to get it from us - at our prices.....!
Down played and unreported is the fact that the US requires National steel production in case of global war.
10:06 That would not benefit the US at all. The cheap material they ship over here is not only cheap in price but cheap as in crappy material. Our infrastructure would fail because of low standard materials. Also those countries won't "run out of steel" as you put it. The get raw materials from mining and they also buy up all the recyclable and scrap metal from around the world. We need a strong steel producing industry in America for national security and also our infrastructure. If we were to get into a pushing match or war with those steel providing countries we would be royally screwed.
One bowl full was probably enough for you.
It will be great to see our jobs come back and America able to stand on her own again.
