National Geographic’s top picks for St. Patrick’s Day around the world

Where's the best place in the world to celebrate St. Patrick's Day? National Geographic weighs in.

In 2015 National Geographic published a list of the top ten places around the world to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. American cities dominated the list. The top four spots for Paddy’s Day revelry are American. Dublin was seventh.

It comes as no surprise that New York topped the poll, given it has the world’s largest parade, which lasts for six hours. Despite the controversy surrounding the parade, this foot-powered march attracts two millions spectators annually.

Can definitely recommend Chicago, Savannah, and Dublin as places to be on St. Patrick's day. Savannah is especially awesome.

I was in Chicago for St. Paddy's Day in 1993. During an evening walk a few days before I watched a filming of the TV show The Untouchables on a bridge over the river. Two days later, the river was running green and the parade was fantastic.

Today, the river runs red.

Cabo Roig, Spain looks really good. Good enough to stay.

I once worked with a girl from Ireland who was here for a summer job and she told me that St Patricks day is hardly even celebrated in Ireland.Actually for most Americans it's just another excuse to get drunk.

I think the Bury would have a St Paddys day parade except for the fact the gays don't like the Catholic religion becaust it disapproves of their life style.
