Frontier Town expansion denied

A 213-campsite expansion to Frontier Town was put on hold this week as Worcester County Commissioners Diana Purnell, Ted Elder, Chip Bertino and Jim Bunting voted to deny a request for 71 additional EDUs to serve the campsites.

The rejection comes based on a plan the commissioners ratified in September that divides the remaining EDUs available at the Mystic Harbour Sanitary Service Area into priority categories in two areas: north and south.

Included in that plan was a transfer of six EDUs from the north area to the south, where Frontier Town is, to cover a shortfall discovered during the process of allocating the EDUs to the theme park and campground.

Sun Communities purchased 166 EDUs from the county in March at a cost of about $1.28 million to transition the park from septic to public services. Included in that deal was an agreement for Frontier Town to build, and eventually deed to the county, a pumping station to ensure wastewater flow.

Currently, Sun Communities cannot use the EDUs it purchased without the pumping station, Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Kelly Shannahan confirmed.

With that deal in place, and following a rezoning approval to provide for a 213-site campground expansion on an adjacent property, Sun Communities sought an additional 71 EDUs to service the expansion.

The problem is the south area doesn’t have 71 EDUs to sell.

Invite Worcester County Commissioners Diana Purnell, Ted Elder, Chip Bertino and Jim Bunting to Frontier Town and offer them a free ride on the stagecoach. Ask them to bring along the 71 EDU's in a bag.
Then rob the stagecoach.
Just a thought.

Who really cares?
That's just 71 more white trash city families camping and pooping all over our beautiful eastern shore...

Welcome to business friendly Maryland, home of a Republican Governer who's controlled by Democrats. The County Commissioners think they are elite being O.C. is in their District.Frontier Town, grease some more palms.always works on politicians, look at Salisbury.

Another local business that will eventually fade away due to unavailable avenues for expansion! Lets see....who can we blame? Pump the waste into the bay it's only seasonal waste to begin with! Currents should carry waste out to sea!

Another example of too much government control.

Interestingly Sun Communities has spent over 100 million dollars in Worcester County since 2014 and they seem to want to spend a lot more. However, it appears the Commissioners don't like that kind of spending and influx of tax dollars in Worcester County...... What a disappointment.

At Frontier Town it's the train that gets robbed, not the stagecoach.

Good.

Well it USED to be the stagecoach.
How do I know?
Because I was once given the amazing responsibility of guarding and then delivering the bag of gold to the sheriff at the end of the trip.
I completed the task by pulling out my just-bought Frontier Town Official Cap Gun on the robbers and chased them away.
That was about 60 years ago.
(Come to think of it, it was a pretty good life-lesson back then for today's world!)

What is the Commissioners reasons for denial. Anything pertinent? I se NO reason to deny them predicated on their purchase for this reason they knew about. Stupid big-headed politicians run amuk. Gold ole boy/girls need to go. New blood is needed!

I feel bad for the business! Government is corrupt thats why we voted for Trump to stop this type of nonsense.

Typical attitude toward development in Maryland unless you pay to play.

Sun is not "connected" like the previous owners were. It would have been gifted to them. Good ole boys always get their way near OC.

Perplexed. Seems like they have already taken steps to reduce/discontinue their septic capacity. Common sense (often in short supply)suggests allowing them to have as many guests as before.

Since campers aren't there year around, the calculations should perhaps be modified. Come to think of it, if they are running around to other local attractions during the season they'll be using EDUs at those locations and not at the campground.

Don't have a dog in this fight.
