238 Places Are Officially Trying To Become Home To Amazon’s Second Headquarters

Even though offering massive tax cuts and other benefits to attract corporate headquarters doesn’t always work out, that hasn’t stopped a lot of cities and regions from officially filing requests with Amazon to be considered for the company’s planned second headquarters. If you’re anywhere near any sort of population center, there’s a good chance your city council has put its name into the Amazon HQ hat.

Interesting. Conditions require a metro population of 1,000,000, an international airport, and a mass transit system.

What's interesting about that. It's a company that has revenues of $135 billion a year. They need an international airport with worldwide access, a population greater than a 1,000,000 ensures that there a few thousand smart people and several thousands of employable people. Mass transit ensures that that the lower paid employees can get to work without a car. The eastern shore has none of these and that is why no major companies will ever move here.

7:25 AM yea and some stupid people on here were saying how we should be a contender, when we all knew it was never a possibility.

I'll tell you why Amazon would never chose a MD location. Because MD is a corporate PREDATOR! That's right, MD's politicians would attack Amazon piecemeal - (ie increase sales taxes, invoke impervious surface tax, create a parcel tax . . on and on.)

Why do you think all of the other corporate moguls have moved out of here.

If I were AMAZON I would require the State vying for my busiines that the entire corporate area to be designated a SANCTUARY - (off limits to any political motivated stumbling blocks). Further - I would require monitary reparations for any infractions thereof.

829 ding ding ding. You sir are smarter than your avg Shire Bird. Always cracls me up when folks rail on and on about the Shore economy then turn around and repeat much of the garbage "news" and misinformation posted here. Tech companies want to located to places with infrastructure and smart innovative workers. That aint the Shore.

But we have a bike lane. What about Jakes bike lane. Wasn't that supposed to make us more attractive to businesses? ha ha ha

Maryland (area North of DC, not ES LOL) and Northern Virginia are at the top of the list of places. Probably Silver Spring or Bethesda area. The educational level of the workforce is high, access to Metro, numerous parks museums and recreational areas.

933, its me again. Change the paradigm, offer Amazon concessions in lieu of 1,000,000 million folks, international airport and mass transit.

Need jobs for a million folks/homes to be around - HOWEVER Route 13/50 provide access to get to a job location.

- Easton/Cambridge and hour away from Salisbury (remember folks drive from Easton/Cambridge/Salisbury/OC to work in DC every day);

- Dover, Felton, Greenwood, Seaford, Laurel Delmar down the Route 13 corridor/ Milford, Georgetown, Dagsboro, Berlin/Beaches from 113 and east 50;

- Pocomoke City north to Salisbury

- Eastern shore of VA

More than enough non-smart as you say available to work
Update Salisbury Airport. If the Prez of the USA can land his personal 757 to visit, it can be done.

Now mass transit could be tricky since the nations capital is the WORST example in the USA. Other were built over 50 years ago and do work so I'd say nope to mass transit/trains. Buses and why not?

Alas, Big Amazon will prob locate in a major city, but eventually the business minded paradigm will change. I do like the Why NOT question.

Especially with plenty of flat land to offer throughout the entire DELMARVA region, not to mention everyone having been praying for a miracle for years. Heck, I remember Wallops Island being a ghost town after NASA downsized, now its a booming success with JOBS!

Someone has to hope since elected officials don't help at all!

Bet Jake orchestrated the DT move downtown so he could convince Amazon to drop anchor at the old DT spot in the industrial park.

Folk music, bike lanes, Sect 8 housing, and blue bumps on the street - unbeatable lure! The Woodchuck is sly as a fox.

3:53 Take a crap in one hand and wish with the other. Which one fills up first? Hope all you want, Salisbury and the shore are done.

353, I like your positive attitude but as 135 says, aint gonna happen.

The smart tech savy skilled workers that would be attracted to a HQ job are NOT going to be happy in most of the towns you mentioned. Especially CAMBRIDGE. LOL. Face it. The beaches are great places to vacation. The Shore is a great location for the outdoor sports man. Other than that, there is nothing to offer here. Socially, folks should be working to uplift each other and build a real sense of community across the Shore. Unfortunately we see nothing but tearing each other down over politics, race, class, etc.

Well, you can bet > it won't be coming Here to Salisbury or
anywhere on DelMarVa !!! Though we DO need it !!!
