Samaritan’s Purse Will Send Five Disaster Relief Units to Texas

Two Samaritan's Purse disaster relief units are now in Texas to help residents as they continue to struggle with rain, flooding, and destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey. Soon we will have a total of five of these tractor trailers in the state, setting up volunteer bases around Victoria, Rockport/Portland, Galveston/Santa Fe, and two in Houston.

Widespread damage and more than two dozen fatalities have been reported from this devastating weather event. Catastrophic flooding put much of Houston under water. Beaumont and Port Arthur—about 100 miles to the east—have been drenched, receiving 26 inches of rain in 24 hours. Now, the rain has stopped and the floodwaters have slowly started to recede, but the situation is still quite dangerous and movement is severely restricted. All branches of the U.S. military have been called in to help.

Two disaster relief units left North Carolina on the day the storm hit, and those tractor trailers are now in Victoria and the Rockport area. At those two locations, we are already coming alongside hurting homeowners in Jesus’ Name, accompanied by Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplains. Specifically, volunteer teams are cutting trees, tarping roofs, and performing mud-outs.
