Salisbury Mayor Jake Day Proposes Massive Fines In Newly Designated No Smoking Areas Throughout The City

Tonight Mayor Jake Day will deliver a multitude of new resolutions, one of them is his No Smoking throughout multiple areas in the City. One of them will immediately get thrown out because the City doesn't own the Government Office Building, therefore he can't create laws for property the City doesn't own.

Nevertheless, get this. The first infraction will cost you $500.00! Every violation beyond that is $1,000.00 each time you are caught.

While I spent the weekend reading some 268 pages of resolutions it became extremely clear that Mayor Jake Day is desperate to do anything and everything to create easy fines and fees because so many people are leaving the City of Salisbury and they have to make up for these losses.

By the way, the smoking resolution includes No Vaping!

No Smoking areas:
all public parks, trails and greenways
public bus shelters
dog park
zoo
marina
skate park
Ben's red swings
riverwalk

The list of no smoking areas goes on and on and pretty much tells you if it has to do with the City you will be fined. View Document Page 72

You could not pay me enough to move to Salisbury.

When and if you read the resolution they talk about air pollution being their main reason for this resolution. Have you ever seen what PRMC burns off in their incinerator and the black smoke that comes from it. How about all the equipment Jake Day's public works department uses throughout the City. Then of course they call this the crossroads of Delmarva. Have you seen the soot throughout the City from vehicle exhaust. The river is polluted and yet Jake wants to make sure that if you smoke, the City is going to make an absolute fortune in fines. They mention the Downtown Plaza as well. Really? I owned a building on the Plaza and I smoke cigars. So if I can't smoke in my building and I can't sit outside to smoke what's left for the property owners who are paying MASSIVE taxes. I am so glad I sold that building, seriously.

I know, let's ALL be like Jake Day and do everything he does or doesn't do. Let's all get the same Poindexter haircut, wear the same clothes, drive the same car, own the same home, paint it the same color, are you feeling me people? Will he fine African Americans next for not being the same color?

Smoking is NOT illegal Jake Day. But it may be just that if Day gets this resolution passed. I'm sorry but this guy is an Idiot!

"Own the same home"? Last I knew, his mother & father owned his home!

Brilliant! Nothing like giving people another reason to avoid downtown and the Riverwalk.
If I were a business owner, I'd be HOT!

Joe, Stupid is as stupid does and that is why Day is so stupid lol however, lets get all of those taxes and fees in place and on the rise, then, maybe, just maybe then, the citizens of SBY will finally get mad enough, but I hardly doubt it... It seems as if there is nothing in this world that would make the citizens of SBY give a crap about anything... Sure, there might be a few here or there, but not enough to effect change... Good change... Maybe the citizens of SBY need to have all of their money stolen from them in the form of taxes and fees, maybe they need to be on the verge of bankruptcy so we too can laugh at them and tell them, oh you don't need help if you only worked... Maybe now, once all of the taxes are in place and people are starting to lose their properties and the like over an unpaid water bill or unpaid fee, we too can come back at them and laugh and say, well if you only worked you would be able to afford those taxes and fees... You don't need assistance... Funny how no one thinks they will ever need help or be in those positions, but if you give it long enough time, soon you will see first hand here in SBY how stupid you sound saying that shit about people needing to work, who already work and saying they don't need assistance when clearly they do, and saying that peoples property won't be taken for an unpaid bill when it does...

I almost can't fathom how the human race can survive with how stupid people are these days... Seriously!!!!

I have no problem with this being passed in areas with high concentrations of childeren. Bens Red Swings, the zoo, and parks. For the other areas I would say just enforce the littering fines. I hate finding cigarette butts everywhere. I don't want my 2 year old picking up your trash

11:32, I agree with your statement about the Zoo and Ben's Red Swings. Look, I live fairly close to Berlin. There isn't a single day of the week where you won't see a large number of people walking downtown and shopping. That is not the case in Salisbury. Putting such restrictions, (or even any additional restrictions) to an already struggling City is just stupidity. You all need to click on the link and go to the page where it lists all of the areas he's proposing.

I should also mention, Ben's Red Swings and the Salisbury Zoo have had NO SMOKING there for decades. Jake Day is punishing a very select group of people who simply choose to do something he is against. Oh, that's right, that's what all Liberals do. It's their world, we're just living in it.

Why in the world does the Salisbury Fire Department need a fire marshal. They will be triplicating services done by the County and the State Fire Marshal.

We all know it's to generate revenue to pay for the paid firemen that Jake Day and Jim Ireton hired.

That's what happens when you vote for fake Republicans like Libertarian Muir Bota.

Don't smoke but will he permit Stand Up Paddlers to do so while braving the filthy river?

When will the council take action against bad haircuts?

Will council enact an ordinance against those taking mass group selfies without a permit?

Also look for a RFP for Potemkin village facades to be installed throughout the city the next 3 years during the folk festival.

I wonder if he'll enforce this on his chain smoking deputy admin?

In all fairness, maybe he's worried about how flammable the toxic Wicomico is?

So I have seen signs in elevators that say, "No smoking, punishable by a maximum $25 dollar fine." Anyone want to join me in the GOB elevator at the next council meeting. We are having a smoke-out. $25 is a lot cheaper than $500 so that's where we should all smoke cigarettes from now on.

Worried about air pollution on the Riverwalk?! They should be paying me to smoke there so it covers up the smell of sewage wafting up from the waters of the Wicomico. We have homeless people living under the South Division bridge drinking, sleeping and relieving themselves, but I guess the Boy Mayor will allow it since they can't pay any fines.

He voted against it last night.

I think he should include public housing.

I can't wait to hear the backlash when day and dome of his non police smoking patrols try to hand out a 500 fine to some of the local gangbangers, should get quite interesting

It's already a cluster. We could not see any signs for a designated area and some old guy on a motorcycle decreed that he heard on the news that is was 25 feet from the walking trail and he was going to smoke and they couldn't do anything about it. The black chick smoking a joint didn't care.

Amusing that everyone has their own interpretation.
