Wicomico County had been footing the bill to mail out all tax bills and advertise delinquent bills for the City of Salisbury. Once the City started playing games like not paying rent or their fair share of expenses in the GOB, Executive Culver asked the City to either financially participate towards these expenses or they were be on their own.
Mayor Jake Day chose to divorce the County and create yet another new department. The software alone will cost the City close to $1,000,000.00. That does not include the additional staff, the estimated $80,000.00 a year to advertise delinquent properties, stamps, legal expenses and collection fees.
Don't dare point your fingers at the County Executive because all he did was to ask what is fair. I'm sure Jake Day is pulling this crap to try to make Culver look bad and I'm even sure the local media will find a way to twist what's really going on.

Sounds like the City should write an Access Database for taxes and save the $1,000,000 for the feel-good stuff!!! ~sarcasm for those who don't get it.
I'm no legal Scholar but doesn't the 4th Amendment come into play here?
The County has already told the City it will no longer fund their tax bill mailouts. Day is on his own with this one. He will be forced to use some of that illegal budget to find himself other ways to get his tax bills out to residents. Legally, he has to provide them ample notice to pay said bills, so he'd better get cracking!
Why in the world does the Salisbury Fire Department need a fire marshal. They will be triplicating services done by the County and the State Fire Marshal.
We all know it's to generate revenue to pay for the paid firemen that Jake Day and Jim Ireton hired.
