POLITICS: Is it really 'just' national?

By Thornton Crowe

The months following last November's election have been filled with trying situations for America. Not only has President Trump had to endure vicious attacks from the press and a useless  Democrats, bent on thwarting everything we voted for, he's had to battle Republican establishment types like Paul Ryan. All this infighting has worked to stall key things we've all had a desire to see, like tax reform, the border wall, and the repeal of the unconstitutional Obamacare.

The political scrapping has spilled over to the lunatic fringe and caused domestic terrorism from both political extremes as people grapple with these tumultuous times. Perfect examples of this backlash are the illogical hysteria over historical monuments and statues as well as the multitude of attempts to shut down free speech.

Luckily, our national economy continues to thrive due to the President's actions as jobs and industry are making their way back to America - fiscally Making America Great Again. Yet, in spite of all this good fortune, many are still in deep conflict. You can't help but feel the DC unrest as we constantly hear derogatory statements leveled by both sides - all against our desires to live in a place where we have legal immigration and possess economic liquidity.

Let's face it, this politics before people ideology is the root cause for the wicked climate of the whole country and this turmoil has affected all of us.

Are all Politics just local?

Judging by what we see in our local leadership and their inability to get on well for sake of our community, it would appear this old adage is accurate. It certainly mirrors the Beltway Frenzy as it seems like everyday we read and hear about some local dust up. No one seems to be able to agree on anything!

It's no secret our local leaders have been at battle over every topic imaginable. And this truculence hasn't just been between those who differ politically, but also those who are supposedly on the same side. In fact, our local war started long before DC's  and the impact to us has also taken it's toll as citizens argue over semantics right along with them. The sad bit is we'll likely never know just how many initiatives we could've benefited that didn't get on the discussion table due to these personality conflicts.

It would be nice if all our leaders would work in unison and put their personality differences aside to forward initiatives that benefit us, the voters. If they did, they would find there would be no election concerns because there would be no reason to replace them if they are doing right by us.

After all, aren't they in their positions because we put them there in the first place? Shouldn't we be their paramount concern?

Keep your friends close, and you enemies closer.
It's become blatantly obvious that the leaders of congress are backstabbing the Donald. They claim they want to help him and his agenda -in public- then, in back room talks, they agree to sabotage him for selfish reasons. Not exactly sure what they are trying to accomplish??
The irony is that, even though our president isn't plurality popular, his agenda is. Its going to come back and bite this -do-nothing- congress in the ass.

I've heard of many primary races that will be as nasty during the midterms. Many Congress people may be looking at being primaried out. Let's make Congress great again!

Dr. Mr. Crowe
A good post as usual .
My thoughts are as follows , our country as most of you know has been successful because our capitalism processes and moral values combined .
We have lost the moral value and still love that $$$$. A lot of money is floating into congress under the table , as one would say. A million bucks is nothing to some of the left . They can and will buy anyone , because we have lost sight of our religious values . Enough said .

Glad to see someone else is tired of hearing about all the local fighting. It's getting old and we should expect better.

Locals are more concerned with the tawdry details instead of what they pay for these games. They love all the drama because some don't have anything better to do with their time. They can't find jobs or won't work or scam the disability system so they have to find something to stick their snouts in.

851 Salisbury's always been like that. It's one of many reasons why people leave. Too many nosy bodies trying to be know it alls and most times they don't know what they're talking about.

Agree with 8:51. Our family's had a long running joke that if you had all the windows closed, the shower running, stereo and TV turned up full blast, but when you sneeze, within seconds a neighbor will call and ask you how's your cold. Nobody likes nosy parkers.

We need term limits for all elected officials.

Ryan is useless along with the rest of congress and senate. I'm happy to hear there's groups working to get them out. They are worse for us than Isis

A good post indeed, but you sound surprised. To those of us in the know this scenario was entirely predictable because his promises were entirely unrealistic.Trump's brilliance is on full display because he knew he would be bailed out by these goofballs. Now,thanks to them he has the perfect excuse to NOT do as he promised.I wish I had someone (beside myself) to blame my failures on.And no ref is going to jump in and stop this fight. Why would anyone stop it when they can blame THEIR failures on Trump? Oddly, this has worked out perfectly for everyone involved...except us.

910 your comment is stupid.

we have to make them accountable 940. the voters have been lazy for too long. we don't hold them to any standard we hold ourselves. we are so busy living our lives we forget that we are teh checks and balances for government types in the end.

RNC establishment has always had it in for Trump nothing new. I find it interesting that he gave the right response to Harvey and the idiots in Washington and media don't say a word about it. If it were Obama they would be singing praises to high Heaven.

Anonymous said...

I am much more cynical than TC. I don't think they want to get along. They don't care about us. We're just tools to get them elected.

Anonymous said...

940, relax buddy. You sound like a lib.

"...endure vicious attacks ...thwarting everything we voted for..."

I guess you were asleep from 2008 to 2016.

Anonymous said...

957 you're the one that's been asleep. They voted for everything Obama wanted. You wanted to make a social statement by voting in the first black president and got what you got. Maybe you picked the wrong first black president to elect.

Anonymous said...

Ryan doesn't care about Harvey victims but has time to bash Trump. Wow!

Amen 1005

Don't most politicians vote against things because they can't stand the people supporting it? It would be great if they all worked for our best interests but that will never happen. We are used goods and tools they use to get their positions.

Anonymous said...

Never happen here. People getting along here is impossible. They live for the fight and upset. Feed on it

Anonymous said...

It's funny how y'all have lots of tough talk when articles are bashing people but not much to say now.

Anonymous said...

Exactly 9:45!!

Anonymous said...

In the contrary 9:57 we were waking up. That's why the Donald won because of those 8 long years. 👍🏻

The whole thing with Sheriff Arpeio in Phoenix is ridiculous. Obama pardoned nothing but scumbags but Paul Ryan has something to say about this?

Anonymous said...

If we had a Donald Trump down here our lives would be a lot better. Someone needs to stand up to these thugs.

If you aren't cynical by now then you aren't paying attention.
The US government is thoroughly corrupt and broken.
It works only for the monied interests and simply propagandizes the rest of us.
The swamp is not supposed to be drained.
It will not be drained.
Period.

Hunker down and protect yourself and your family from the economic collapse.

If we can't take our government back locally, how will we ever do so at the state of national level. It takes courageous, honest people who understand the concept of "leader as servant." So, who will run? The best suited people are those who never aspired to public office, but finally realize that not to run is to be part of the problem. I speak from experience. It is someone else's turn now. Who of you will run and who of us will provide the needed volunteer and financial support?

There are many people willing to help 844 but the problem is they are demonized by other candidates and the outsiders they use as conduits which causes good people to not want to bother with it. If people remembered that people working on campaigns are not fair game for abuse, then you'd find a lot more people willing to work and work hard to help good candidates. In our current landscape this is hard to find.

Anonymous said...

Another problem is when people don't agree with EVERYTHING a candidate does, all of the sudden, they tend to brand that person as bad. God forbid them make any mistakes because they'll be crucified for it. We're never going to 100% agree with every little thing a politician does, so you have pick your battles. What are your real hardline deal breakers versus what things are livable for the sake of all the good they do for the community. We sometimes hold this idea of perfection which simply doesn't exist. Mistakes help a person figure out what works and what doesn't. Would we want ourselves to be judged so harshly if we were the person in charge? Probably not.

952/956 I've also seen people be horrible to others who don't hold their same opinions. This is another deterrent for getting into politics. Look how the other council members blackballed John Hall when he spoke out about the way they went about the county budget. He was treated like some outcast and he's a really nice guy. What he said at that budget meeting was absolutely true but since then, I've heard he's been treated badly by other members on the council. Horrible.

All you say is true, but I stood up and took the arrows and made a difference. Are we mice or men?

844/1021, 952 here, you have a good point but some of us have families which are also drug through the same mud by malcontents. Taking it under advisement. Thanks for the response.

My family was, but still, standing up an taking a turn at being part of the solution was the right choice. However, one person or even a few can't do it alone. Others must have the courage to step up and take a turn or all is lost.

I moved to Fruitland a few years ago for peace and quiet. I lived in the DC area for years and worked for the US Govt. It is true - it isn't about the people it is all about control and power these individuals in high positions crave and will do anything to keep. Example. John McCain.

There is a guy by the name of Paul Nehlen that will be running a against RINO RYAN, he is a conservative successful business man and deserves our support.

Our local politicians are so disappointing. They don't have our best interests at heart and the few that do get ostracized by their peers and us. Wake up people. If you rail against people who are actually working for you, this discourages any others who would work for you to run for any elected office. Use. Your. Brains.

Most politicians only care about themselves and staying in power. Look at their salaries and benefits. Better than ours. They only serve one term and get to collect a pension at our expense. The Feds are not our friends, nor are many of the members of the boards and commissions they appoint, like the FDA.
