Lifeguard Charged After Saving 5-Year-Old’s Life, Video Shows Boy Was Underwater For 4 Minutes


The lifeguard who was on duty while a 5-year-old nearly drowned at Chelsea Piers in Stamford on Aug. 3 was arrested on Wednesday, police said.

Stamford firefighters responded to the scene at Chelsea Piers' Splash Zone on Blackley Road at 12:37 p.m.

Zachary Stein, who was one of three lifeguards on duty, had pulled the boy from the water and were performing patient care upon firefighters' arrival.

Thank God he was there and responded when he did. Yes, we all wish he could have seen the child earlier, but silence is a difficult thing to notice right away. Glad the victim is recovering well.

Parents should be the ones arrested. This is absolutely crazy. Lifeguard does the best he can but he's not a babysitter. If I were a lifeguard and I saw this story I would quit my job immediately! I can't believe we let wall St bankers destroy the economy and no one goes to jail but a lifeguard gets arrested because of a 5 year olds lazy stupid parents. Wow this story has me furious.

Yep. What parent lets a 5 year old kid out of their sight on a beach??
The police went after the wrong person.
Which never happened before.
