The annual Chincoteague Pony Swim Week kicks off on Saturday, July 22nd in Virginia! If you are planning to attend this event or any events over the next week that are associated with the Chincoteague Pony Swim Week, here are a few things to keep in mind:
*** The MD herd of horses, managed by the National Park Service on your behalf, do NOT participate in any of the events that take place during the Pony Swim Week. Only the VA herd, managed and owned by the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company, participates in the round up, swim and auction.
*** All events are held in VA and not MD.
*** You cannot drive down the MD side of Assateague to access the VA side of Assateague. To get from the MD side of the island to the VA side of the island, allow yourself approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to drive on mainland roads.
