Wicomico County, MD (June 1, 2017) -- Deputy State Fire Marshals are working to determine the cause of a fire that resulted in a 53-year-old male occupant being transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center and subsequently to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Burn Center in critical condition.
The Salisbury Fire Department responded to the one alarm 5:22 p.m. blaze and worked to bring it under control within 45 minutes. The fire was contained to the half of the two-story duplex occupied by the victim at 147 North Park Drive in Salisbury.
Investigators determined the fire originated in the first floor living room. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time. Investigators have estimated the damage to the structure and contents at nearly $100,000. No working smoke alarms were located during the on-scene examination. The American Red Cross is assisting the remaining occupants due to smoke damage inside the duplex.
