MEET CHESWICK THE LIFEGUARD CRAB THIS SUMMER!

Cheswick Reminds Ocean City Visitors and Residents to Walk Smart, Drive Smart and Bike Smart

As Ocean City gears up for the busy vacation season, Cheswick the Lifeguard Crab has been greeting the crowds and reminding everyone to stay safe this summer. From events like the Fireman’s parade to holidays such as Independence Day, Cheswick will continue appearing on the boards, the beach and the streets to spread the word: Walk Smart, Drive Smart and Bike Smart.

The OC Walk Smart OC crab was named Cheswick last summer by a poll, a tribute to Matt Cheswick, who lost his life due to a drunk driver in 2012. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) deploys safety ambassadors to accompany Cheswick and hands out fun reminders of his important message and poses for pictures. The OC Walk Smart campaign is a collaboration between MDOT SHA, the Town of Ocean City, Ocean City Police Department, local businesses and other State and local partners. Why is our state government responsible for the roads in Ocean City?

Because locals aren't capable of it? Could be a state road.

Nice summer job for a college kid. Hopefully the kid or kids are from around here!

Yeah I know, wishful thinking!
