OCEAN CITY — Concerned about the Fourth of July falling on Tuesday this year, Ocean City officials on Monday approved a further tiered flat fee schedule for parking at the Inlet on the holiday in the hopes of ensuring the lot stays full.
In 2013, the Mayor and Council approved a one-day only flat fee of $50 for parking all day at the Inlet lot on the Fourth of July. The intent was to allow visitors to park in the prime Inlet lot all day for an upfront fee of $50 and stay for the entire day straight through the Fourth of July fireworks and beyond.
In addition, the primary goal was to alleviate the massive traffic jams on the Inlet lot following the fireworks when hundreds of cars would stack up trying to pay as they exited the lot, sometimes for several hours. The $50 flat fee for all-day parking at the Inlet lot was successful in the first year and the following year, the fee schedule was modified to $50 if entering the lot before 3 p.m. and $30 after 3 p.m.
On Monday, Public Works Director Hal Adkins recommended a new fee schedule at the Inlet lot for the Fourth of July when the holiday falls on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Adkins and his staff recommended continuing the $50 fee at the start of the day from 6 a.m. to noon, $30 if entering from noon to 3 p.m., $20 if entering from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and just $10 after 6 p.m.

50.00 bucks??? Thats beyond ridiculous!!!! Do they really think the ghetto board walkers will pay that? No ... they will be all over the place looking and fighting over street parking..
1200 x $50. Hmm. Parking lot business in OC good.
It is very good but last year there were so many EMPTY slots, they genius at City Hall came up with a way to get a few more $$$ out of the turnip.
They worry SOOOOOOOOO much about the 3 holidays', they have YET to come up with a strategy to fill hotel rooms during the weekday. HELLO CITY HALL - if you have FULL rooms during the week, that parlay's to filled restaurants, stores AND PARKING on the street and inlet. Aka INCREASED REVENUE!!!
But alas....lets just focus on the 4th of July parking lot and leave the average hotel cost in OC of roughly $185.00 - which is the HIGHEST amongst Del, VA and outer banks' beaches. Its in a study they did several months ago.
By the by...DANNY's early WBOC forecast for July 4th - RAIN! HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Question City Hall...fire trucks are in town and taking up 3/4 of the inlet parking right now. You all have the balls to worry about a few boobies, how's come you didn't make the Fire Trucks pay??
Huh...you mumbled something, couldn't quite hear you. Whats was that...common what? OH Common Sense. Really? Is that like a card you throw out when you think its right?
Is building a median common sense?
Is painting trash cans with tax $$$ common sense?
Is scrambling of rules/laws prohibiting boobies common sense..not to mention the upcoming $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for the lawsuit?
Is incrementing fee's for parking on the 4th common sense - especially with failures of crowd control for Bike and Cruiser...hell H20i weekends?
Anyone remember the bridge fiasco a few summers ago, paralyzing downtown. Heck, we had a downtown power outage during Cruiser weekend making folks play frogger for hours. ABSOLULTELY NO plan. They guy with the "key" to the bridge problem was out on his boat for hours until he returned!
Oh that Denny's where the old JR's stands...such a perfect establishment for one to see upon entering OC via the Route 90 bridge!
Mary, Hal, Rick...your tiny time mentality is quickly coming to an end. Hope digging up that tree was worth it! Enjoy it while it lasts.
