Maryland comptroller: Casino money for schools was a 'lie'

(WBFF) -- Maryland Casinos are on pace to have a record year in 2017, generating nearly $2 billion in revenue.

Maryland voters approved casinos thinking much of the revenue would go to educating our kids. So, if casinos are going gangbusters, why can’t schools like Baltimore City pay their bills?

It’s one of the main questions we get from viewers who call our hotline or send us an email. Project Baltimore looked into it and found out all the money is going to educate our kids. But there’s a catch that Annapolis didn’t tell you about.

Careful there Pete...you are one of "they" (legislature) now. People don't care to remember who was where back then, they ONLY care about the here/NOW.

If "we" were mislead, then you are in an influencing position to "fix" it NOW.

Sniff sniff...it smells like someone may be running for another political position in the near future and they have already begun finger pointing at past administrations. Hmmmm...

Fix it Pete, you are the money man!!!!

They lied about the Maryland Lottery.
Back in the fifties when the toll roads were established for the Bay Bridge, they stated it would only be temporary until the bridge was paid off. Once again a lie. I haven't stepped foot in a Casino since 1984 in Atlantic City.
Saw people lose their homes, and life savings due to gambling addiction. My best friend lost his home and car due to his addiction. Took me almost ten years to pay off my gambling debt. Learned the hard way and have never been back since.
I will say it was exciting and I learned a lot about life. The problem is human nature. When you are winning, you want to keep playing. It's hard to walk away when you are ahead and the odds are always on the dealer.

Wasn't the Maryland Lottery supposed to be dedicated to education?

I'll say it again. You can't print enough money for Democrats to spend.
They want all of it.

They use children as a way to shame you into acceptance. Do it for the kids.
BS

12:07 - the initial premise was that it was to be added too what was already allocated to education - all they did was change the funding source!

You mean the liberal governor wasn't honest?!?!??
Like how O'Malley stole from the transportation fund to spend it on his pet projects. Where I come from, that's called embezzlement - spending money on something other than the declared purpose.
if the little ol' PTA treasurer spends the funds on -whatever-, she will go to jail. When democrats do it, it's called re-allocating.
I'm glad Franchot has the balls to call it what it is/was.

It was a lie by the Democrat politicians...not a lie by the casino owners. The headlines made me think the casino's were at fault. Not true.

Still NO ONE will do anything about it!!! We let our elected officials get away with everything. Maryland has always had Liberal, Democrats that run and spend everything. Marylanders continue to be STUPID and our political leaders just laugh. Voters keep allowing this to happen.

The Baltimore/DC Corridor allows it to happen. They rule the entire state. Makes me sick.

The Maryland lottery was supposed to go for education but the politicians decided it was more important to build sports stadiums.

crap. every tax & license fee increase is "for the children."
