Indictment: Attorney Offers Money To Rape Victim Not To Testify

A criminal defense attorney faces charges of witness intimidation and obstruction of justice after allegedly telling a rape victim she will be deported if she testifies against his client.

According to court documents, Christos Vasiliades also allegedly offered the victim and her husband $3,000 not to appear in court to testify against his client.

The indictment was handed up Tuesday morning in Baltimore City Circuit Court, and Vasiliades was arrested Tuesday afternoon at Courthouse East as his client’s trial was about to begin. The state attorney general’s office presented the case to the grand jury.

According to the indictment, Vasiliades and an interpreter Edgar Rodriguez, made the offer in a meeting last month. The victim and her husband contacted police.
