Dave began his career with Rommel Electric Company, founded by his father in 1956. Since Dave started working there in 1976, he and Patsy have become mainstays in business on the Lower Eastern Shore and beyond.
More than 40 years later, the Rommel Construction Group now includes companies that specialize in electrical, mechanical, traffic and transit work – and the Rommel Companies operate Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealerships and Ace hardware stores – all across the mid-Atlantic.
Now, Dave and Patsy have made a firm commitment to helping a new generation of entrepreneurs. Salisbury University President Janet Dudley-Eshbach announced a $5.5 million gift from the Rommels, benefiting SU’s new Center for Entrepreneurship at the Plaza Gallery Building in downtown Salisbury and supporting other future activities of the campus and the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business.
“Anyone who has attended Salisbury University’s business plan competitions in the past 30 years knows our students frequently combine outside-the-box thinking with practicality,” said SU President Janet Dudley-Eshbach. “During those three decades, many have built on that winning combination, creating stores, restaurants and service-based businesses that continue to be successful today. The new Center for Entrepreneurship will give our students even more support in making their business dreams a reality while generating new jobs, helping to fuel the economy. We are grateful that Dave and Patsy Rommel share our vision for a strong entrepreneurial community and University.”

I've always had this nagging thought when I hear of these endowments by individuals.......if you have this much money to 'give away' then did you ever think you maybe charged too much in your businesses and could have afforded to give everybody a reduced charge along the way....????????

10:55. That's the dumbest thing any liberal could say. It's all about hand outs to you. Maybe you should be like Dave and bust your tail on multiple businesses and become successful.
10:55 - Never once crossed the mind of a thinking person. Entrepreneurial skills, vision and foresight, and a lot of hard work put him in a position to parlay that which he had - just like Trump and all the other folks who have made such charitable contributions. If they were in fact charging too much along the way how far along the way would they have gone with consumers go elsewhere for lower prices. Really doesn't make much sense to think they should have reduced prices rather than earning a right to help others in need.
10:55 is a typical Sanders & Warren supporter. Does it occur to him/her that the Rommel firms are part of our free enterprise system that those two and their ultra liberal Democrat base want to exterminate, in which there are numerous competitors. If Rommel or any other is charging too much for the particular market, then the customers switch to some other firm.
And I know from personal experience that the Rommel enterprise has prospered by hard work, customer service and sound management.
He didn't make his money by overcharging for products and services.....he got it from short cutting his employees!!! Just ask a few of them.....
12:25, I'm the 10:55 commenter and I'm as conservative as you'll find here on the Shore. It has nothing to do with hand-outs, and I HAVE busted my tail and been reasonably successful. But I haven't gouged my customers, I've given some breaks, and I haven't got $5mil in the bank.....maybe that's why. This is all I'm saying. Thanks for your skewed analysis though.
You have people like this that give back to the community. You also have people like Gillis and Gilkerson just take from the people.

Impossible...the whole town is not worth the first million
Developers Palmer Gillis and Tony Gilkerson are donating the $4.4 million Plaza Gallery Building and Annex on West Main Street in Salisbury to the Salisbury University Foundation Inc.

That building was never worth that much money. More of the cheats playing with the numbers. Nice of them to take a big tax deduction claiming it was worth that much.
