Local Media Finally Admitting What I Have Been Saying For Years, Salisbury Is Almost 80% Rentals
For many years I have been telling our viewers that Salisbury is close to 80% rental. Most of you went after me saying I wasn't telling the truth. Now the Daily Times is even on board with the truth, yet they don't mention all the units that are rentals, just not registered with the City. The numbers above are from 2015, so the current figures are even closer to the 80% figure.
Now Mayor Jake Day wants to add over 1,000 more apartments, most of which will be affordable housing. My advice, get the hell out of Salisbury and remember Folks, crime is down, NOT.

Why? Because there are FEW livable wage paying jobs.
But lets all cheer for the cracker barrel or the Krispy Kreme.
Instead of focusing on section 8 and bike paths, they should be focusing on jobs.
These stats should be presented to the Governor at noon today. Those who will have his ear today will be in the 20% of the population who are homeowners, so the numbers probably won't be shared.
How about the other fact that 15% of the homes for sale here are foreclosures.
And that is not the truth either, because there are a lot still not formally on the market.

They will only celebrate building places to live for people who can't afford to pay local landlords' "market" prices, which take more than the affordability of 30% or less of local renters' income, driven by the out-of-town students' parents' ability to pay across-the-Bridge rents. Ironically, many of these landlords and their real estate buddies will be shaking the Governor's hand today and telling him how great things are.

Well we let the inexperienced liberals try to ruin this country, but finally we woke up and put a business leader in charge of the U.S.A.
Now let's hope it's not too late to turn the once great town I grew up in, into a nice place again. We need experienced leaders, not the lackeys of the past three or more so called leaders that have tried to ruin Salisbury. We need someone with experience that wants to Make Salisbury Great Again.
I must say, trolleys for drunks, bicycle lanes, jogging paths through the park, watering hole downtown, low rent districts, etc., etc., are not working out.
This town needs someone of strength, character, smarts, and experience. Donald Trump is booked up at the present, but there are like minded men in the area. The problem is, why would they want to give up their standing and lower themselves to a position here with no support system.
These are 2015 numbers. With the illegals that have been pouring into the US (and Salisbury), I'd bet the current numbers are much higher.
And BTW- THIS is why you can't afford rent around here anymore. VERY high demand.
Kind of ironic that the owners of all theses rentals are mostly republicans.
That is why voter turnout is so low and candidates like Ireton and Day keep getting elected.

I live near some rental houses and they are dumps. The owners Richard and Suzanne Ewing are GLORIFIED SLUM LORDS.

I lived in Salisbury for 10 years in a home I purchased in 2006. During that time, the neighborhood changed from almost all homeowner-occupied to a significant portion of rentals. Local shopping, which used to be pleasant, became very unpleasant when having to run a gauntlet of "characters" who had nothing better to do than hang around entrances and parking lots. I took a big loss on selling, but I figured things were more likely to get worse than better. Those who are concentrating on downtown need to remember that you can add all the restaurants and shops you want, but until people feel safe, they will not venture out. I kept my bike locked up at all times - do you really think people will bike through unsafe neighborhoods to go shopping? Use some common sense.
11:08. I totally agree about the Ewings. I rented from them years ago and they never addressed any problems with their houses. All they want is the money. They could care less how the houses look or who rents them.
Joe, You should go talk to some of the renters on Rip-Wil Dr., they will tell you about the problems they have trying to get something fixed and several of them say they have black mold growing in their houses but if they complain to the Ewings they are threatened with eviction. This needs to be looked into.

Agreed only college students parent's and those on section 8 can afford to live here
His Honor plans to change the name of the downtown to "Little Cabrini Green" and to relieve the Salisbury Police of having to risk their lives there, the area will be policed by the city's gangs.
