Maryland Food Bank recieves donated land to use for farming fresh produce

The Maryland Food Bank will receive about 3.5 acres of land from NRG, a Fortune 200 Company and a leading power company in the U.S., at its plant in Dorcester County to support the food bank’s Farm to Food Bank program.

The land will be harvested and managed by Black Gold Farms. Black Gold Farms is already a partner with the Maryland Food Bank in the program.

The program creates a network of farms across Maryland to get fresh, local produce to hungry Marylanders. Nearly one in eight Maryland residents face food insecurity each year, according to the Maryland Food Bank.
Once harvested, the Maryland Food Bank distributes produce to over 1,200 soup kitchens, schools, food pantries and shelters.

It sounds like a perfect place for those with court-imposed community service to do their required work. There's nothing like working with the earth to put a new spin on life. So enough with the baloney community service assignments and get some dirt under those nails!
