ACCOMAC, Va. (WAVY) – Students, parents and community members gathered outside of the Accomack County courthouse on Friday night, protesting the school district’s temporary ban on two classic American novels.
10 On Your Side reported earlier this week that “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” were pulled from bookshelves after a complaint was filed. During a November school board meeting, a parent expressed concerns about the novels’ use of offensive racial slurs.
But during Friday’s demonstration, attendees argued that censorship can be a slippery slope, especially when it comes to literature.

A friend of mine went to the meeting friday night and heard what the school superintendant had to say . When told the story "went viral" the super claimed he did not know what that term meant !
Ban all rap music with the N word too.
1:06-Refusing to listen to it or buy it would also solve that nuisance problem.
I don't understand what the fear is of these books.
I didn't read or buy either of those books and they are being banned.
One person complains and they ban these classic novels? Obvious left-wing ignorance. I agree with 1:06. Have you heard the racial slurs in some of the music being published and recorded nowadays? Is it one's right for freedom of speech? And books freedom of the press? How about banning pornographic material? See where we go with all this banning?
See the movie Field of Dreams and listen to what Amy Madigans's character has to say about this to the PTA. Classic!
