The felony charge of extortion has a maximum sentence of 10 years and/or a $10,000 fine, while the common law misconduct charge has no prescribed maximum sentence. Frederick’s attorney Wm. A. Lee Clarke said an appeal with the Court of Special Appeals would be the next step after sentencing.
In the meantime a peace order that prevented Frederick from even going to town hall was modified by Judge Sarbanes so that the first-term at-large commissioner can attend meetings but “exercise common sense” in his interactions with Commissioner Dennis Williams. He is to have no other contact with the District 2 commissioner by phone or through social media. “Stay within the bounds of common sense,” the judge said.

Sarbanes is a judge in Wicomico County and has been for 3 or 4 years now.

It has been more than 2 years. He ran against MJ Caldwell 2 years ago and he was appointed by O'Malley at the beginning of 2014.
He is getting off easy, because he is black.
If Caldwell was Judge, that guy wouldn't have gotten off as easy.
I really do believe judges have a stand down order on corrupt politicians recently seeing so many get off with little or no prosecution.
Sometimes "diversity" isn't all it's cracked up to be.
And "common sense"? One person's common sense isn't always the same as another's. Thieves and cheats and scammers have a different view on common sense than those who are not. Their common sense is to take advantage of those with the common sense that the judge talks about.
Judges from other counties are brought in for "controversial" decisions.
The commissioners can still vote to take him out. But they won't.
Well well... what do we have here... a Sarbanes and corruption = more corruption and greasy hands. He is an ethical nightmare as is the whole corrupt Sarbanes crew.
