Another Downtown Riverfront Lot In Salisbury Sold For Affordable Housing

Do you support Mayor Jake Day and the City Council selling off another Riverfront parking lot for affordable housing?

I have been preaching for years that Salisbury is completely overloaded with affordable housing while your elected officials denied these properties were in fact sold for such projects. Rivers Edge is yet another major project that turned over to affordable housing.

Millions of taxpayer dollars are being spent to revitalize Downtown while your Liberal representatives quietly sell off taxpayer owned, (and valuable) lots for low income residents.

All you have to do is look at the current complexes that had been built for what they called back in the day, section 8 housing, same thing. Some are already being torn down and now being rebuilt, as if they didn't learn what these projects deliver.

Politicians pound their chest showing drawing renditions of these beautiful projects and push to get everyone excited about revitalization. What they NEVER show you is what these past projects look like TODAY. They also do NOT tell you the crime rates and calls for service in these areas.

Yeah, rather then doing the hard work to garnish outside interest to rebuild the Downtown area, run to companies tied to the government and destroy your communities.

Yeah, it truly was your election to lose Salisbury.

It's good to be poor is the Bury. That's why we got the F out in 2009.

And Salisbury truly lost!! I'm still looking for the 'artists' at River's Edge...are they all just 'con artists' selling drugs and beating their baby mommas?

Anonymous said...

Its part of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) they are making the neighborhoods equal. A certain percentage of housing in a wealthy area has to be low rent so people dont feel discriminated against for being poorer than someone else.

What a bass-ackwards plan.

"Riverfront" is for developing safe enclaves for the taxpaying residents.

You know, so their taxes can support the "free"...or "affordable" housing on the other side of the tracks.

Anonymous said...

Which lot?

Anonymous said...

Yeah thats where I want to stroll and have dinner on a Saturday night... how stupid are these people? they say they want to revitalize downtown and then you put section 8 housing in????? Then they will act so surprised when the revitalization fails and crime spikes! Idiots

Anonymous said...

This town and its elected officials are just down right nuts. Valuable property like that and putting trash that won't work on it and they call it revitalization. What a freaking joke. Let them get out and work and buy a house instead of constantly handing housing to them.

What business would want to move to Salisbury? There's nothing here

Anonymous said...

They did a report on the news about this.
Owner of the Acorn Market thought it was a great idea.
She thought it was going to bring in more business.
I laughed.
What it is going to do is ward people off from coming downtown.
I have no desire to go shopping in a ghetto

Apparently she has never lived near a section 8 housing complex.

Anyone remember the abandoned building where Rivers Edge is currently located? I sure do. I rode by there everyday for about seven years. The abandoned property was owned by an out of town bank. The bank had the property discounted for sale for many years. Local developers could have had that property at below market value at the time, but chose not to make an investment.

But finally, a company based in Annapolis (Osprey Property Co.) did make a private investment and teamed up with Habitat and a couple of other government agencies to build the Rivers' Edge we see today.

Is River's Edge the perfect way to develop the Wicomico river waterfront? Probably not.

But it's sure a big improvement compared to the disaster that previously occupied that property.

p.s....the man I'm voting for in the next election has built many of his properties in his portfolio employing the same methods.

They have artist there. They prefer to be called rappers though

Anonymous said...

GREAT more welfare thugs in waterfront housing free free free when will this s""T stop just to appease blacks.

Anonymous said...

From my observation, Acorn Market has a pretty good breakfast and lunch crowd. I usually go at least once a week.

Anonymous said...

9:25 all you have to do is go to the Maryland Judiciary Case Search and look up the criminal history of the Acorn Market's owner and decide whether or not you would want to patronize that criminal's establishment. She is well know within law enforcement personnel during the 1990's and 2000's. I guess it goes hand in hand with section 8 and the crime that produces.

Who John Cannon the SLUMLORD ?

Anonymous said...

Hey jake day get rid of the name the "Bury" it makes the town sound like a guetto ahhhh never mind it already is.

Think what this does for the school system. Thank God i live in Delmar Delaware.

Frankly, I don't care anymore.

Anonymous said...

Dave T: Frankly, you should care ! Don't let the low standards and pathetic performance of others bring you down! This is truly unacceptable. Since when are people to be rewarded for not having jobs and not trying to work or pay their bills? More entitlements for those seeking to live and freeload off the government and taxpayers. Those responsible should be ashamed for allowing this. Public officials, you know who you are! And so will the people who voted for you!

Anonymous said...

Look at booth street apartments

Anonymous said...

Normally waterfront would bring big bucks.
In most towns the waterfront properties are owned by rich people.

Anonymous said...

lmao seriously? this so called waterfront property is on the wicomico river, one of the worst open sewers in maryland if not amerika!
enjoy the stench from perdue!

Anonymous said...

WHat is the acorn market owner's name? I want to look her up on casesearch.

Anonymous said...

12:12 OH yeah I forgot about the perdue stench!

Anonymous said...

Check her background history not a pleasant one. Would never go there very untrustworthy!?

Anonymous said...

With affordable housing aka liw income thug housing it's like he's trying to destroy downtown. I haven't lost anything there and will never go downtown again.

Anonymous said...

You will find her there!!!

Anonymous said...

Great, now remove the Extreme taxes from homeowners who live. In the waterfront. It's not fair to give those who do nothing free prime living space and tax people who work to obtain it. Jake Day this is a dumb thing. Keep on and no one will visit the ghetto or downtown as you call it. What a stupid thing to do. Smh .

Anonymous said...

It's a sow's ear. The silk purse that so many look to have downtown is only a dream.

Anonymous said...

Christine Braughler

She DOES have a long rap sheet!

Anonymous said...

12:12 haha exactly. Who would want to live on that nasty river. Ya'll must be eating the fish out of there

Anonymous said...

I hope Brew River has plenty of camera's in their parking lot to record the car theft's that are surely to come out of this project.

Anonymous said...

I personally just like to watch and listen to Day talk. He's an absolute moron and wants so badly to look and feel important. He truly doesn't have a clue. As for the " waterfront " property that parcel of land was occupied by a fertilizer company for years and deemed contaminated. Then as stated we get to the Perdue issue and that pretty much sells it, LMAO. The waste from Perdue and the God awful smell is truly a selling point. Don't let the flooding on fitzwater street deter you it's only been an issue for the last 40 years never to be addressed by your city government

Anonymous said...

rightly or wrongly, fairly or unfairly, ethical or unethical - most housing projects come with gangs, drugs, and crime.

Anonymous said...

No one can afford to live in Salisbury thanks to the college has anyone looked at the rent prices around here a house that should rent for 800 there charging 1400$ jake day you need to do something about that also

white people wake up. said...

No, its about the Black Vote PERIOD.

Anonymous said...

Jake Day "be all you can be "and give salisbury a break with your incompetence.

Assuming the post is about Riversedge, isn't this old news? This was long complete before the current mayor came on. Lets evaluate current mayor on his
accomplishments not others.

Anonymous said...

What accomplishments?? "Arranging " special interest real estate transactions for his drinking buddies? Or creating a tourism welcome center on the plaza?? What a freaking joke

Nothing BUT A COMMON THIEF ..look her up. She can't escape her past.

Anonymous said...

No one in their right mind would patronize Christine Sier Braughler.

Anonymous said...

Christine Braugjler is a career criminal hiding behind a fake smile while she stabs you in the back. Her boyfriend/boy toy is no better and he is the cook. Why anyone would support a business where the owner is a confirmed criminal is beyond me. Especially when there are so many hard working honest local business owners trying to help the community.

Anonymous said...

Poor Christine..all she knows is lying, cheating & stealing.

Anonymous said...

I'm not defending anyone's past mistakes God knows I've made several myself as I'm sure everyone of you that are being so critical about someone's past. It has to be very hard for you all to go through life being so perfect and judging others so harshly. Definitely a bunch of bitterly crotchety old people

Anonymous said...

Hey 7:57, yes, I've made mistakes. But, I haven't REPEATEDLY broken the law. I learned from my mistakes and didn't make them again. Obviously, she hasn't learned hence, her VERY LONG criminal history. Remember, a leopard doesn't change their spots. Lying, cheating and stealing is no way to go through life.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like the same old same salisbury md version. Haters are going to hate at any and everybody they can find flaws with. Sounds to me that it's more jealous childish adults that are mad that someone who made mistakes in the past actually doing something positive and owning a successful business.

Anonymous said...

Folks, get it through your thick skulls. Businesses are NOT bearing down your door to invest here, whether its residential or commercial. You folks lack both education and innovation. Your town does not attract skilled workers or even young people who are ready to make a diffrence. Face it, Salisbury sucks.

Anonymous said...

Another gillis giveaway?

Anonymous said...

I do not eat there because of her past and I also try to avoid $10 plus lunches.

Anonymous said...

Funny - how every single candidate running for Mayor tried to steal Joe's platform for strong promotion of economic development. Now - history has revealed that none of them have provided any substantive improvement except for offering handouts, based on government subsidies.

I can tell you this much - had Joe Albero been elected Mayor Salisbury residents would have now recognized a 10 fold improvement over what have now.
It truly was an election to lose for Salisbury residents.

Unfortunately, Salisburians should be prepared for more crime, unemployment, drugs, poverty, it's what in store. You are living and experiencing it first hand everyday.

Anonymous said...

They are not only living it, they support it. Stupid is as stupid does.

Anonymous said...

Can't wait to get out this ghetto hole called Salisbury.

Anonymous said...

The term "artist" has a broad definition. When it all began I was thinking more along the lines of artistry on canvas.

Anonymous said...

I don't want another housing project built out here "in the county"...it's a damn shame the "artists' colony" vision was sunk under the weight of Section 8 inhabitants, but I sure don't want them transplanted out here either. They colonize, expand and suddenly more and more welfare warrens are being stacked side by side, creating yet another resource draining, crime producing hellhole.

Generally, more desirable parcels of land go to purchasers willing to pay more for the amenity (water view, country living, etc).

There is a fixed amount of waterfront and water view land available, everywhere. Selling it for public housing (under whatever euphemism you choose) diminishes the likelihood that higher income, more disposable income residents will want to live, work, shop nearby.

You don't have to go to school in England or get a buzz cut to figure that out

The plan seems to be to turn the downtown area into a concrete and brick jungle and to force everyone into using their version of open space - the parking garage. It's an inadequate plan and a genuine disincentive to going downtown for any reason.

'bury poor planning!

Anonymous said...

Poor planning is an understatement. Glad I didn't buy one of the condos across from Brew River. Started to but decided against it. The smell from Perdue is prohibitive enough let alone the dilapidated homes that are on the other side of the street from it. What a waste. Downtown Salisbury used to be a hub of activity. Now even with lofts and fancy apartments, it's all homeless, Section 8 and lawyers lining the streets. A business can't possibly irk out a decent profit margin there, that is unless they're a lawyer. Concrete jungle indeed. This was the big powerpoint plan Day had for downtown? Brilliant. Simply brilliant.

Anonymous said...

Friday events in places like Berlin are much more appealing. Its not like you're going to the combat zone to party outdoors. Berlin's historic district is way more inviting.

Anonymous said...

Did the values of all those swanky condos and lofts just plummet or what?

Anonymous said...

Affordable housing and Salisbury don't belong in the same sentence. Seeing all the landlords overcharging in this area, what constitutes affordable housing? $1500 a month? Seems like an oxymoron considering most jobs in this area pay $10 or less an hour for regular 'office work.' Can't believe chicken pluckers haul in big cash but maybe I'm wrong.

Anonymous said...

I've got it everybody lets get jobs at McDonald's that way we can live in brand new waterforont housing for 300$ a month

Anonymous said...

I agree something has to be done about the rent prices around here what I don't get is 4 college kids can live in a house were the landlord chargers each 500$ a room 2000$ a month but 2 working class families can't live in the same house so the can live in a nice home to raise a family. Jake day your a so called leader in the army why don't you be a leader as a mayor and grow a pair and stop these slumlords for hurting your working class families also why am at it hire a real police chief

Anonymous said...

The city of salisbury and its local government elected officials and city employees are covered up in ethical violations top to bottom. Jake Day doesn't care about the working middle class citizens. He looks out for the likes of his daddy and the bigger developers and surrounds himself with yes men that don't buck the system. He's merely using this mayor position as a stepping stone on furthering a political career. He's an absolute jackass

Anonymous said...

So the mayor was quoted last week on the wboc as saying there was plenty of parking in the garage. I called on Thursday to get 5 spots in the the parking gagrage and got the Prices called back Friday afternoon and was told by a very nice lady named Dee that the garage was full as of today. She offered me a spot in the lot that was just sold and your talking about in this article. What gives? Is there parking downtown or not Jake.

Anonymous said...

Can't fix stupid!!! Jake Day you're top echelon you are!! I guess you have to find some sort of sucker to utilize that dumping ground of so called waterfront properties to try and generate any type of income for the city!!

Anonymous said...

Jake Day is a Typical hardcore(by training) liberal who thinks he is smarter than all others, especially Republicans. Jake Day thinks he can transform Downtown Salisbury into a great Destination, but low income housing isn't the answer.

Jake Day you FAILED!! ... sadly again!

Anonymous said...

Affordable housing is nothing more that LOW INCOME HOUSING. This is what ruins cities and developments. It can't be successful by design.

Anonymous said...

When did the referendum to sell off this lot come up to a vote by the Citizens and Taxpayers of Salisbury?

I must have missed that election?
