It’s tough being gay and living in rural areas – or so says the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
That’s why the agency known for grading your beef is teaming up with LGBT groups and Drake University’s law school to host an “LGBT Rural Summit” on Thursday.
#RuralPride Campaign: LGBT Rural Summit Series is part of an effort by the USDA, the National Center for Lesbian Rights and the True Colors Fund – an LGBT homelessness group started by singer Cyndi Lauper – to reach out to LGBT people who live in rural areas.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will be the keynote speaker, according to a press releaseby the law school. Other speakers will include university employee Matt Russell, of Drake’s Agricultural Law Center, whose experience includes farming with his husband.

Hi Joe, As I am reading this article I start to think, Ok what is the punch line? There isn't one, it sick and disgusting to think our tax money is again being spent like drunken sailors on the LGBT clowns. What about spending some of that money on people who don't choose that way of life.
Obama and his Gang or trying so Damned hard to further ruin this great country before the end of his term, by the way it can't come soon enough for me.
Doesn't bother me as much as it kight bother others. I'm a big supporter of suatainable agriculture which in turn is embraced by counter culture/hippie types (among others) so it shouldn't be a surprise that there are lgbtq farmers. It's probably been going on for as long as there have been farms.
Since when did the USDA become responsible for mental health issues?
This is hilarious!
Homosexual farmers. It doesn't get any better than that.
