OCEAN CITY — Sergeant Shawn Jones of the Ocean City Police Department’s Narcotics Unit calmly adjusts his bullet proof vest as he sits in the passenger seat of an undercover vehicle. He’s carefully watching cars traverse along a backroad of southern Delaware, near Selbyville. He’s looking for junkies, and his eyes are transfixed on one particular road.
“I bet you that dinged up car is going to make the turn,” he says to his colleague, (a young undercover officer who will be referred to as “Detective A” throughout this article upon Jones’ request), who nods in agreement. “Look, there they go.”
The car, a beat up early ‘90’s model jalopy with four passengers in the vehicle, makes the turn onto a dilapidated country road and heads toward what Jones and Detective A describe as one of the busiest open-air drug markets in the region.
Detective A waits a few moments before following the car. He drives swiftly, but with extreme care so as not to look like he’s tailing the car.

Wow! So much wrong here in this story! A federal investigation he launched! Profiling at its best! ocean city cops in Delaware doing surveillance then following people into Maryland and engaging a stop! That's just to start! I'm all for getting door off the streets but not like this! This is wrong!
The problem obviously is the IMPORT of heroin into this country.
The import increased dramatically after the acquisition of the Afghanistan poppie fields by the US Military.
Local police have been duped into accosting US citizens for something the Federal Government is profiteering. The intelligence agencies are the real problem here. Not the citizens.
I wish it would be recognized that we own our bodies.
Over 80% of today's heroin in the U.S. comes from south of our borders, not Asia. That's not to say that the CIA has nothing to do with it.
As a side note: It's interesting that this isn't a hot button item in the political arena.
These guys need a drone or three.
Ok why is an ocean city cop in selbyville????? And none of you clowns even asked that question...
5:02 you are the clown. These guys are tasked with enforcing the drug laws in Ocean City so they go to Selbyville which is not very far from their jurisdiction to watch people buy drugs and then go into Ocean City. And when these people get into OC they stop them for some traffic violation and end up finding the drugs they just purchased. Sound pretty logical to me. These same people buying the heroin in Delaware are the same people breaking into residences in OC and stealing to support their heroin habit. So by arresting these people they are in turn preventing multiple crimes from even happening. Have you been asleep for the past five years heroin is killing people not just in our community but across the entire US at record numbers. So in addition to preventing crime they could also be pointing these addicts in the right direction for help to save their lives. I am sure if one of these people were a member of your family you would be praising these officers for the work they are doing, but then again probably not, so to these officers thank you for everything you do.
The drug task force is made up of members from several units in two states. Some of the clowns figured that one out.
Bravo, OCPD!
The Congressman and Senators have it brought in....Hell, look at the Clinton's drug trade!!!
OMG.. we live in a police state!!! Get my tin foil hat! Mom, make me a hot pocket!
so as long as the junkies head away from oc they are ok. hence spd having no clue what to do about it!
Excellent work as usual OCPD!
