ROCK HILL, S.C. — A barber in South Carolina has been arrested after police say he pulled a firearm on a customer.

According to the York County Sheriff’s Office, a man reported on Tuesday that he walked into a Rock Hill barber shop and asked for a haircut. and barber, identified as 65-year-old Larry Thomas, told him he “does not cut black hair.”

How many black men go to white barbers and vise versa? just saying.

When was the last time a white person walked into a black barbershop in the hood and asked for a haircut?

Maybe Thomas felt threatened by that man. It sounds like it was an obvious set up to me. Grown black people already know who cuts their hair!

Black barber shops don't and are not able to cut white hair. Sounds like a set up.

...If you're white, go to a black barber/salon. They'll tell you they don't cut "good hair".

A black barber offered to cut my white hair a couple years ago. I only said no because I have a regular barber. If my barber retires I might give him a try.

I don't care who cuts my hair, as long as they do a good job. And I tip, too.

I've been told by a black hair stylist that black hair was very different to work with, than white hair. When he walked in, the barber assumed he wanted his hair cut, and he may not have had the appropriate type of trimmer or expertise with black hair.

I've read that black people can get a type of scarring from a skin irritation from shaving. So I don't blame the barber for being hesitant to do so, if he didn't feel he had the appropriate tools and experience.

He may well have been brusque, if he was busy, which was taken as some sort of affront to his race, rather than an advisement that he didn't feel he could provide satisfactory service.

They tend to get belligerent at the slightest imagined offense, and recognizing an opportunity to cash in, immediately became aggressively accusatory. The barber pulls the pistol out when the black man became loud and threatening. Don't blame him.

It sounds like they both over reacted to a misunderstanding...if the barber didn't have prior negative experience with aggressive blacks looking for an excuse to cause him trouble.

A black man cut my hair for a long time, right here in Salisbury -- the best haircut ever. But some of his customers didn't like me being there.
One time I cam in late and his shop was full. He said it's going to be a while, but if I could come back at 8am, he would meet me here and cut it. I said, okay, but I have to be at work by 9 and would be on a strict time schedule.
When I showed up at 8am, there were four other people waiting.
I took the hint. Found another barber. I didn't look for a lawyer, though. They are TERRIBLE at hair cuts.
That's all that needed to be done. I still get my haircut and he doesn't get a 35% tip anymore. It has nothing to do with "civil rights".

When they can't find racism they create it which is racist all by itself.

eh, according to the article the guy has a history of going off on his clients

534, yes, ONCE in 2007, NINE years ago!

Not a "habit", sorry. You are delusional.

Defending yourself once every 9 years or so, if that since there is nothing prior to that, is more labelled as "rarely", or at best, "occasionally".

Defending one's self may happen at any time unexpectedly, and it's started by others!

Nice try, but that one was a dud.

I don't get it. It was full earlier, and four people when you came back. What was the hint, what did that mean?
