Ocean City Guards Take Stands for Summer Beginning May 28

A new summer season is upon us and Ocean City’s most recognizable staff will take the stands beginning Saturday, May 28. Guarding ten miles of beach in the resort town, beach patrol surf rescue technicians will be on duty seven days a week, from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. until late September.

Also beginning Memorial Day Weekend are continued educational efforts by beach patrol staff. Lifeguards will signal beachgoers out of the ocean at approximately 5:25 p.m. each day, letting residents and visitors know that they should conclude all water related activities until the guards are back on duty the next day. To further educational efforts, the lifeguards informs the public of the dangers of swimming in unguarded waters, reminding citizens to “keep your feet in the sand until the lifeguard’s in the stand.” This catchy rhyme reminds never to go in the ocean when the beach patrol is off duty.

While the Memorial Day holiday kicks off Ocean City’s official start to summer, the beach patrol is still looking for interested applications to join the team for the summer season. The first training academy begins Sunday, May 22, with a second academy beginning, Sunday, June 19.
