Maryland is tops in the U.S. for job gains in March

Maryland gained nearly 20,000 jobs in March, outpacing the rest of the country and holding the state's unemployment rate at 4.7 percent even as more workers joined the labor force.

The state added 19,300 jobs between February and March of this year, according to data out Friday from the U.S. Department of Labor. It was the largest month-to-month gain of any state in the country.

Maryland has now added 62,400 jobs since March of last year. The state's unemployment rate is down from 5.3 percent a year ago.

"It's a very positive report today," said Andrew Bauer, a senior regional economist at the Baltimore branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. "We had more people coming into the labor force. Those people were able to find jobs."

Considering a lion's share of the jobs are in the suburbs of DC, I wouldn't be hanging out the Great Economy banners here is Salisbury. Salisbury's economy is still in the basement.

It will never recover here.

You can say that again. Campbell Soup, Dresser Wayne,Crown Cork & Seal are all gone. Just to name a few. Construction jobs gone, too. The Eastern Shore is no longer attractive to retirees due to the high cost of living and unbearable taxes that Md has imposed over the years. Thank goodness I retired with a good pension and above average savings. I'm far from tight, but I never spent more than I earned. I'll be looking to move out of this state soon. Been here since 1968. Shame.

Backward thinking has kept Wicomico in the toilet. Bob Culver is at least TRYING to move this County forward. BRAVO for finding that the good old boys hid the fact that alcohol could be sold at the Civic Center. Maybe if we start catching up with the times, we can make some progress. Worcester and Lower Delaware are eating our lunch!!!

Way to go Governor Hogan. 4 more years! Maybe, if we're lucky, by year 7 some of it will work it's way down here!

I was to believe that people didnt want to live in Salisbury because of the chicken houses? I had no idea it was because there are very little places to work at (100 sarcasm) If I could move away I would.

It isn't the chicken houses. It is the no jobs/low wage jobs, the crime, the drugs and the poorly educated. From reading comments on this blog, the educational system on the Shore isn't producing people who can spell or know grammar. Professional jobs are out of their reach. When grocery stores don't want to come here because they feel the population isn't sophisticated enough to support them, that speaks volumes.

Hope the good ole boys are proud of what their leadership (or should I say lack of) has produced.
