Authorities wouldn't say publicly whether they thought the killings were drug-related, but an official with knowledge of the operation told CNN's Nick Valencia: "This operation was not for personal use; it was for something much bigger than that. It was a very sophisticated operation."
The cold-blooded nature of the killings has rattled Piketon, a town of about 2,000 people 90 miles east of Cincinnati.
The victims, who ranged in age from 16 to 44, were methodically shot in the head Friday while sleeping at four residences, including a mother with a 4-day-old infant lying beside her, authorities said. The newborn, along with a 6-month-old and a 3-year-old, survived. The official said the killings happened before dawn.

But there's no violence associated with marijuana I thought?
Why didnt these people have dogs to alert them someone was on their property. Not very smart.
9:15 - The only violence associated with marijuana is by lowlifes who want others' product, marketing turf or money.
They have been liberally killing one another for those reasons only since marijuana was made a huge Black Market commodity by government.
You may now go back to watching Reefer Madness.
There's more to this than the property being a country growing spot.
Not true 9:46. In Colorado crime associated w/marijuana has spiked, including and not limited to murders, armed robberies of distilleries and of people to get their money so they can then purchase the marijuana. The breaking and entering and thefts from homes has spiked too and it's all related to the legal marijuana trade.
FYI-What's Reefer Madness? I've heard of it but don't know if it's a documentary or a work of fiction. Anyway you need to check your facts because if you think for one second their isn't major violence including of totally innocent people, associated with marijuana then you are grossly uninformed.
LOL 9:46 You need to educate yourself because you are one low information person. The fact is, the legalization of marijuana has increased crime. You can try and spin it no matter how you like but facts are facts.
Mexican cartels eliminating their competition.
From 9:46 AM - Didn't you read what I wrote? The only crime associated with marijuana is based on getting the product (marijuana), turf (dealer selling areas) and money.
The first comment in the string 'But there's no violence associated with marijuana I thought?" was the ludicrous one.
People have been regularly killing one another over marijuana for decades, but not because they've been drugged into going on killing sprees. Drug related murders are almost exclusively involved with the politics of drugs, not the pharmacological effects of the drugs on individuals.
See Reefer Madness on YouTube. Then look it up on Wikipedia.
Why are people robbing distilleries? Why do they want the alcohol?
There's a huge black market and it's getting larger as people are charged more and more for legal retail marijuana. Street vendors can undercut those prices by 2/3 in states where it's legalized, strictly regulated as to who grows, and heavily taxed. Those vendors and their suppliers are in competition with other vendors and suppliers. With billions and billions of dollars in street sales in the balance, these people will eliminate the competition where possible.
9:46 - I see your point. Just as alcohol prohibition created a huge underground industry and violent criminal population to go with it, you're saying that marijuana prohibition did the same thing. I can believe that.
This post was about murdering a family and doing it in a well planned manner. I hope that the investigation is going well and that the rest of the family has our prayers.
This was an assassination.
Just one example of healthy competition not being all that healthy.
