Harris Wofford, a Democratic U.S. senator in Pennsylvania from 1991 to 1995, has announced that he is marrying a man, according to an article he wrote in The New York Times.
Wofford is one of the founders of the Peace Corps, and was a special assistant for civil rights to President John F. Kennedy and an adviser to Martin Luther King Jr.
Wofford’s wife, Clare, died in 1996 of leukemia. In the Times article, he said, "I wondered what it would be like living by myself for the rest of my life."
Wofford discusses meeting Matthew Charlton.
