WICOMICO DRUG DEALER SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS IN PRISON

On March 21, 2016, a Wicomico County Circuit Court judge sentenced Byron Maurice Smiley, age 29, of Salisbury, Maryland, to 10 years active incarceration within the Maryland Division of Corrections which is a mandatory, non-parole eligible sentence for the charge of Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine.

Minutes later, the same judge imposed a consecutive 15 year prison sentence for a subsequent Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine charge. Both of the sentences imposed on March 22nd were ordered to run consecutive to any other sentences Smiley is obligated to serve.

The total sentence amount is 25 years of active incarceration within the Maryland Division of Corrections with 10 of those 25 years being a mandatory, non-parole eligible sentence. The 10 year minimum mandatory, non-parole eligible sentence is based upon Smiley’s status as a repeat offender and his prior convictions for Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine.

The events at issue in the first case began on September 3, 2015, when members of the Wicomico County Narcotics Task Force and the Maryland State Police Gang Enforcement Unit executed a Search and Seizure Warrant at 2509 N. Zion Road, Salisbury, Maryland. Upon entry into the residence, officers located Byron Maurice Smiley asleep in the front bedroom. At the time that entry was made, Smiley was the only person located in the home. A search of the residence lead to the recovery of 139.9 grams of suspected cocaine, 3.8 grams of suspected marijuana, ammunition and $1022.00 in U.S. currency.

The events at issue in the second case occurred while Smiley was out on bond in the first case and pending trial on the felony drug charges. On January 11, 2016, members of the Maryland State Police Gang Enforcement Unit initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated by Smiley in the area of 804 East Railroad Avenue, Salisbury, Wicomico County, Maryland. Based on events which transpired during the traffic stop, Smiley was placed under arrest. A subsequent search of Smiley’s person resulted in the recovery of 3.37 grams of Cocaine which Smiley had secreted in his buttocks.

Wicomico County State’s Attorney Matthew A. Maciarello commended the Maryland State Police Gang Enforcement Unit and the Wicomico County Narcotics Task Force for their work in the investigation and prosecution of this case. Mr. Maciarello also thanked Patrizia J. Coletta who prosecuted Smiley.

Letter to the Editor:

Joe on the same lines as the concern with Debbie Campbell being radicalized with the chicken farming group that hates any type of growth we have an out of state agitator from North Carolina by the name of JC Watts(Craig) who hates Perdue Farms, the Integrator, because he tried to rat them out because he wasn't getting paid what he thought he deserved. That lazy clown was growing lame chickens that he couldn't sell to Perdue for good money and he went out business because of his back stabbing actions. He is living in North Carolina and stirring crap on the Eastern Shore via social media. To show what kind of idiot he is, this is what he posted.

Not sure if you guys are aware of this...but a win here would help tip the scales..it seems to me..what do you natives think?

Scott Mahler - I know Jim pretty well - friend of friends (and he married my wife and me last year). Good guy and on the city council currently. He knows a little about what's going on with the CAFOs here and our guys informed him (and the others) when they met with council. We have to beat Andy "Mr Big Chicken" Harris!

JC Watts - Isn't there someone in your group to run opposition?

Scott Mahler - Not at that level, JC. But I have a feeling what's going on here is going to spark people to run for county council. However, there's such a "good old boy" network around here that it's hard to break - not impossible, just hard. I know for me it's been an eye-opening experience about how power, money, and influence run everything, even at the local level.

Lisa Inzerillo - People have absolutely no idea, I sure didnt. I see pretty clearly now.

Brian Knode - JC Watts Hope so. But when Gabby Marie, WET, and I presented last nite to the Dem Club, neither Jake or Jim showed up. Ernie Davis, council member did though.

Now can the MD State Police please arrest the CIA who smuggle the cocaine into our Country?
That would really be a nice thing to brag about.

551 beat me to it. Not sticking up for this dude or his deeds. But people wake up. Notice they always seem to cart out street dealers as if they really took a bite out of crime, then they ask for even more of your tax dollars without ever stopping the problem.

5:51 Follow the Democratic money from the Mexican border. There lies your answer. You may wish to begin with Eric Holder and the "Fast And Furious" gun running campaign ordered by Obama. Need I say more!

How did chickens enter this comment string?

Great! A drug dealer off the streets! My sister in law works at PRMC ER and she said they average 3-4 drug overdoses every night!! One weekend they had a total of 30! There is a horrible drug problem in Salisbury and this needs to stop!! God help us!

6:28 Maybe a history lesson is in order here. There once was a NSC operative by the name of Ollie North, during the Regan years, that was involved in this little this called the Iran-Contra affair which involved running drugs and arms through Panama and Costa Rican. Kind of ironic that Nancy Reagan was the voice of the war on drugs, while Ronnie was secretly allowing drugs to flow in the country. BTW, I'm not a democrat and believe in honesty rather rhetoric.

They do not. If you only knew what else these "street dealers" do in your town. The "they" is your police. They do a great job locally. You want cartels taken care of, vote wisely in electing your next president!

715. Has she ever heard of HIPPA? I smell a lawsuit coming her way.

You know that if he had not been busted, he would have sold that coke to some customer after pulling it out from between his cheeks. Eeew.

11:58 is lucky they can spell HIPPA because they don't know anything about the Act and what is and is not covered by it. Shorebilly Sofa Lawyers!

11:58, It's HIPAA. And she never mentioned names. It was a general statement. She was concerned about the drug problem, that's all. We all should be.
