WASHINGTON — Police, politicians and citizens who launched a concerted effort to toughen drunk driving laws in Maryland got the help of a veteran of the fight: One of the co-founders of MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
Cindi Lamb Wiley sat on a bench outside a Maryland Senate committee room, preparing to testify. This wasn’t a new experience for her. She’d been here before, as a young, grieving mother.
“My daughter and I were going to the grocery store on November 10, 1979,” Wiley says. But they never made it to the store. A drunk driver slammed into their pickup truck in on Md. Rt. 26 in Frederick County, shattering both their lives.

While I am completely, totally, 100% against drunk driving, it is beginning to be obvious that this group feels the need to enact SOMETHING during each term to remain relevant - to remain relevant and make money.
This group will NOT stop until 1. A zero blood-alcohol content for any driver, and 2. A Breathalyzer rig in every car sold to be able to start your car.
These people are just in it for the money now.
More revenue to the county to stomp on the little guy just bring it down to a 0% but when a Member of MADD gets pulled over for a glass of wine I want her Hammered.

No one wants to see drunks on the road, no one. But, ridiculousness is the issue here folks. And, the supporters and MADD are the ones looking ridiculous.
So glad we fled the nanny state. Excuses are made for habitual drunk drivers. The state, lawyers and the blow n go people all make money rather than revocation of license and incarceration for repeat offenders. Her loss is terrible but if she was "launched from the truck" probably did not have a seatbelt on. Article says the other driver was a repeat drunk driver. The state, judge and lawyers involved should be held accountable as well. Have I driven while impaired? Yes, but not in urban/suburban areas. In the far reaches of the county, there are few or no cars on the road after 11pm. You drive slow on country roads with no lines on them and avoid the deer. Worst case, you end up in the ditch and come back in the morning and retrieve the vehicle. No harm - No foul, unless one of the WCSO deputies is headed home and happens upon you.
It's actually down to "the smell of wine [alcohol]" on one's breath that will cause you to lose your license for six months (if you refuse to take the test).
This has created an incredible financial loss on restaurants - not to mention bars - over the years of MADD.
Quite simply, if a legislator does not back still another yearly, Draconian law, pertaining to the amount of alcohol you can have in your system, then they are "Pro-drunk driving".
Restaurants do not generate the cash for the government that DUI laws do. It's big business now, with most of the funds going to our government.
It hasn't happened quite yet, but having one glass of wine with a fine meal, and losing your license along with a ton of cash, is right around the corner.
Imm so glad none of our legislators in Annapolis drink and drive so they can soberly consider this kind of law.
I will REFUSE the test and if they take my license I will STILL drive.
When do we stop having to preface our comments with I am against drunk driving. there are enough laws on the books. I am against MADD because just like planned parenthood they have an agenda which is political and is designed to shut you up. Stay out of my life I am against MADD

I use to have a DAMM (Drunk Against MADD Mothers)sticker. Had to take it off the bumper. Kept getting pulled over. Some folks have no humor.
