California, Labor Groups Reach Tentative Deal To Raise Statewide Minimum Wage To $15/Hour
California is poised to become the first state to adopt a $15 an hour minimum wage. Over the weekend legislators in the state said they had reached a tentative agreement with labor unions that would see the state rollout the wage increase over the next six years.
After taxes, social security, etc. maybe clear $450.00 a week at most.
$450.00 week x 4 weeks = $1,800 per month.
Typical Salisbury delapidated rental unit = $1,000 month
Insurance for rental property, utilities, + approx. $200 month.
Medical related premiums, co-pays, prescriptions, etc = $200.00 month
Vehicle insurance + $100 month
Food for 2 people per month = $200
WOW - $100 left over at this point.
A person on their own probably cannot live on this salary without some other external help such as another family member bringing in income or some form of "government relief" I wouldn't get too excited about that coming to Maryland.

actually 7:29 you are a bit low on the "medical" estimate. More in the range of $400-$700 a month. Yes for a single person.
and depending on which dilapidated rental you have it can easily cost you $4000 or more a year for heat - A/C - water/sewer.
I know this all from actual experience.
