US Special Forces Help Fight Central American Street Gangs

U.S. Special Forces are engaged in the fight against Central American street gangs in an effort to prevent the violence that causes illegal immigration into the United States, The Wall Street Journal reports.

In Honduras, U.S. forces aid a local SWAT team called the Tigres, who target violent street gang members, but Americans stay in the background to avoid appearing to interfere.

"More than anything, we’re looking to promote stability and security downrange because if they're stable and secure, that’s going to naturally protect our southern border," Col. John Poast, former deputy commander of U.S. Special Operations Command-South, told the Journal.
