What is Operation Homefront?
JP Morgan Chase and Meritage have partnered with Operation Homefront to give away mortgage free homes to our veterans and military families. Operation Homefront caters to all of our veterans no matter what era they served (Vietnam, Korea, Desert Storm, Desert Shield, OEF, OIF, etc), as long as they served honorably.
Selected families live in the homes for a period of 1-2 years as OH’s “tenants,” where they are required to pay a monthly rent equal to 1/12th of the annual property taxes, home insurance, warranty, closing costs and home owner association fees.
At the end of this 1-2 year period, provided there are no outstanding issues or delinquencies, the family is deeded the home, free and clear.

So, I spend my life working by butt off still not paying off my 3/1 house in need of renovation, and a vet gets a McMansion for free?
I do respect the things the military guys have done, but not for free houses to all paid for by.......me, who can't yet pay mine off @ 62 yoa?

Vets do not have a free lottery believe me!! And vets families are suffering because they sent a whole soldier to fight and got back a piece of that person mentally and sometimes physically too.
My heart goes out to all veterans and their families. And, NO I am not a vet nor is my husband an injured vet...we were lucky.

Once you stupid idiots realize that WWII Vets never suffered from PTSD because they were fighting for a real goal and were able to actually ACCOMPLISH it, they felt accomplished and were able to go on with their peacetime lives with success, you will see where the basic flaw is in this.

FYI I just sent my application on after reading this article. I spent 30 years with that image burned into my brain until finally getting treatment 3 years ago!! I wish you would sign your post as well I'd do my best to try and get a home as close to you as possible

As a Vietnam Veteran, I will sign my name to respond to your pathetic whimperings. Your comments prove you know little of World War 2 veterans and their struggles. They dealt with it well throughout their lives. They, and all combat veterans, sacrificed so the uninformed and ignorant (which applies to you by the way) can sit back and speak of things which they do not know. If you have not served your country in some fashion -- and politics aside -- then you really should just hush up!
6:00 You obviously have no idea what it's like to serve in the military. And the low pay our service men and women get for training and protecting us from our enemies. Historically, our government fulfilled their obligation to its veterans by supporting them with benefits. Because in the real world, they'd be living in poverty. With the liberals controlling the nation's purse for so long, the benefits have withered. Many programs for vets are actually offered by generous donations by people who care about preserving their freedom.
You can hardly call a 1600 square foot home a McMansion.
And you can bet that the family that gets it deserves to have it.

It's his way of trying to show some gratitude for the freedoms he enjoys. As far as benefits from any government entity that's a total joke. The VA is in total dis-array and get any help from them is pretty much a waste of time. Our government pretty much turns their back on veterans trying to receive any compensation
Realistically the illegal Hispanic and Muslim refugees have more government assistance gban our veterans

6:00 You should be ashamed of yourself. A 1648 square foot home is not a "McMansion" by any stretch of the imagination. It's a nice, decent home of average size, that a deserving veteran can finally come home to, permanently.
As a former military man I have to agree! I got paid well and I wanted to do what I did. I wasn't forced! I knew the dangers. People say soldiers don't get paid well. This is true living on base in times of peace. Go to war and there are so many perks like hazzard pay,combat pay, if airborne than jump pay, married? Separation pay.......... This is a list of things that are to be expected when you take a job. Especially a dangerous one.
Lucky? You and your husband weren't lucky. You have to volunteer to take a job and go to combat to be lucky. You both are probably uneducated billies or spoiled brats whom either way have whatever you got because of your mommy and daddy. Soldiers know what they signed for. Death and destruction. Towns, cities , vehicles or bodies. Theirs or the enemies. They cheer and laugh as they make fun of the situations they were in telling stories. I know I was one of them. But we never said anything about luck.stupid for messing up. Smart for staying vigilant and thinking right. There is consequences to all actions. Has nothing to do with luck.
Lucky that even in service to his country and in combat he was not fatally injured. Don't jump to conclusions please.
I'd rather see one of our Veterans get one of these houses than some freeloader.Half the newly constructed "free" houses built with Hurricane Sandy funds are replacing homes that were falling down slowly BEFORE the Hurricane.
Amen!! When are people going to understand without these people you can't enjoy the freedoms and liberties you enjoy!! The least we can do is offer some sort of comfort when they get home!!
There are more vacant houses in our country than homeless and veterans combined. Think about that. No need to spend to build more for vets to give free. And think if the families helped or the possibilities of crime reduction if homeless were placed Instead of ignored until they steal for food.
These homes aren't free people they're merely an opportunity for veterans to secure safe decent living conditions. There is a 2 year period in which there are no defaults or latenesses they are merely given opportunity to become homeowners
I just want to say that I saw this on SBY.NEWS and applied as a VET and our family was VERY lucky that we are being given the chance with this great offer. I just want to thank Joe for posting this item. My wife and 6 year old daughter are so excited. Thank you Joe.
