Berlin man found not guilty of abuse charges

William Burke, 38, of Berlin faced 10 charges, including second-degree assault, second-degree child abuse and reckless endangerment stemming from a series of incidents involving former live-in girlfriend, Lauren Blevins, and her children but was acquitted of all counts Wednesday afternoon by Judge Richard Bloxom in Worcester County Circuit Court.

Blevins herself was put on trial by the defense attorneys, who drew out her history of addiction and relapses into drugs, including Suboxone, heroin and crack cocaine.

Burke, a youth football coach in Berlin, was confident and concise throughout his lengthy testimony and cross-examination during the five-hour bench trial.

Blevins, who was called and recalled by State’s attorney Diane Ciulhe several times throughout the proceedings as new facts arose or inconsistencies were uncovered, was erratic in her testimony. She also had difficulty remembering dates and made several attempts to reconcile with Burke after the alleged incidents occurred.

Terrible. Blevins should be charged and arrested for filing false charges.

That office will try every dog poop case it can get its hands on! One day the folks in Worcester County will wake up like the voters in Somerset County and change their prosecutor's office.

Diane Ciulhe Is an idiot for allowing this to go to trial. Pretty much typical for her from what I hear. But they didn't promote Steve Rakow and he left? I expect better from our states attorney office.
