Actually, the First Amendment Does Protect 'Hateful' Speech

From the latest edition of The Economist comes these astonishing sentences in a story on the recent controversy at the University of Missouri.

"The backlash against the changes at Mizzou is likely to continue, led by self-styled defenders of the First Amendment (which protects free speech). Yet the First Amendment does not give people a free pass to go round saying hateful things, points out Mr. Henson."

The Mr. Henson referred to is Chuck Henson, the university's "new interim vice-president for inclusion, diversity and equity," and he and the editors of the Economist are in need of a tutorial on the First Amendment.

As instapundit.com proprietor Glenn Reynolds points out — and note that the use of the verb "points out" indicates that the author is in agreement with the person quoted — the First Amendment does give people a free pass to go round saying things that other people may consider hateful. Anyone in doubt about this ought to consult UCLA law professor Eugene Volokh's definitive blog post, complete with citations of Supreme Court case law, on why "there is no hate speech exception to the First Amendment." The University of Missouri, as a state institution, cannot restrict the First Amendment rights of students (who, with only a few exceptions, are adults 18 or older).

The Economist is an Illuminati magazine whose whole purpose is to indoctrinate the public on the social designs of the elite.

It's origin is tied to the intelligence agencies and most of its writers (certainly the Editor) work directly for the CIA.

You have free speech because you have vocal chords.

Free speech is free speech. Not to say that some speech won't be fightin' words.

Liberals are NOT after just the Second Amendment....they want to turn their lives over to someone who will guarantee them a life of never ending welfare and a world where no one ever gets their feelings hurt or has an opinion that differs from the herd.
No newspaper prints an editorial that disagrees with them and "public assembly" has to pass their approval.
They LOVE being watched, photographed, recorded, searched, and robbed.
More accurately, they love it when it happens to YOU.
The fact that there are millions of Americans who are so ready and willing to surrender everyone else's rights is utterly astounding to me.
Jefferson, Madison, Franklin and others would spit in their face and hang them in the public square.
They should take that as an insult, but most of them don't even know what, or to whom, I refer.....
Keep cheering.
